It's served me well
The Hike n Strike does exactly what it says it does, and quite well. This is an edit of my initial review; I originally gave it four stars because I thought that--even extended to its maximum length--it was too short to use it like a walking stick. For the first couple of months I had it, I thought I'd extended it as far as it would go, and it was still 8 or 9 inches too short, so I had to use it like a cane. But one night, while I was walking my dog, the pointy bottom of the stick got stuck for a second in a crack in the sidewalk, and--as I pulled it out--the stick grew longer, revealing a telescopic joint I hadn't previously noticed! Now, it's long enough for me (I'm 6'0"), with a bit to spare. I haven't truly used the stun gun yet, because, thankfully, I haven't had to. I live in a small town in southeast Louisiana, and there are folks in my neighborhood who have a pretty relaxed attitude about keeping their dogs from roaming the streets. My dog is a big Great Pyrenees/St. Bernard mix who tends to be aggressive with other dogs, so after she and I were attacked on a walk by a Pitbull (I was bitten, and she nearly killed the Pitbull), I decided to start carrying something for protection. During the time I've had it, I've had to turn on the power switch a few times, but I've found that simply keying the stun gun before the attacking dog gets within a few feet creates a distinctive, loud zapping sound that really freaks dogs out; every time I've done it, the other dog has run off. Heck, sometimes, simply shining the flashlight in their eyes does the trick. My only disappointment is that it didn't come with an extra rubber tip for the sharp end. There were two rubber caps provided for the top, but I lost the one on the bottom of the stick.

Nice walking stick.
My wife really likes this walking stick because of its solid build abd its lite. The taser's sound gets one's attention and would deliver a wicked shock.

Exactly as advertised!
This hiking pole is exactly as advertised. It is sturdy, expandable, and has a strong stun gun and flashlight. Very happy with the item. Good seller with quick delivery.

This stun gun stopped working after two weeks
My husband was walking our dog at the park when a loose Pitbull attacked our dog. The Pitbull bit our dog's neck and our dog screamed. My husband managed to separate the Pitbull and a good samaritan passing by helped him to secure the Pitbull. Our dog survived but next day my husband had a heart attack and he was transported to a big hospital. Fortunately he survived. That is why we purchased this product for protecting ourselves. To our disappointment, the product stopped to work only 2 weeks after it arrived. We can turn on a flashlight but there is no flow of electricity when pushing the button. We are very disappointed. We bought pepper spray bottles and you know, we think that these spray bottles will be more practical and are much cheaper. Anyway this stun gun has rubber cover on Electrodes and you have to remove it to use the electrodes. It takes time to remove and especially replace the cover. You have to attach the electrodes to the attacker to use it It means you have to wait until the attacker comes close to you. And after you turn on the power button, you have to push the charging button on the opposite side of the stick and keep pushing it while using the stun gun. Pepper spray is more practical.

A little short and quite bouncy
I love these poles and own two. They bite into ground well but they bounce on planting. To compare I roller ski and the skike poles I use dig hard with no bounce. The hike and strike poles bounce 2-3 times when planting while hiking I am 5'9" and these poles when fully extended are perfect for me. I would suppose if you are much taller than I , then they wouldn't be very efficient for hiking. The activation process to use the stun has a few steps and I question how well that would go if an angry animal was charging you. I don't use the top rubber cover and cut off the strap. The straps should be breakaway. Straps are a liability in a self defense situation. Without the straps and guards, the process I use to get into position to stun requires me to slide my hand down to the stun button grip, turn it on, then press the stun button. Better, but a single button that automatically turns on the battery and stun would be more aligned with the need self a self defense weapon. There would need to be some sort of safety of course.

Sturdy and lightweight
Very pleased with the hike n strike! I usually use my hiking stick I carved myself but have been running into a lot of people who can't and/or won't control their dogs. I'm a dog lover but if you let your dog lunge at me on the hiking trail, be prepared to have the hound get shocked. Per the other reviews, though, the sound the shocking mechanism makes should scare off most dogs and hopefully coyotes. As a hiking stick, it's very sturdy and light. Speaking of light, it also has one of those on it as well. Overall, really well put together and highly recommended.

I found the package! It worked fantastic!
I looked around and found the package! It's safe now. The most challenging part was opening the plastic wrap, so I used a knife to cut the edge. Be careful - the plastic edge can cut your skin. I put the battery on, and I turned it on - the electricity sparked and made static noises. It worked fantastic! The light switch was on the handle, and it brightened and worked well. It is time for me to go onto the wilderness trail. It made me more secure for survival in the wilderness, surrounded by unpredictable intruders and animal attacks.
