JED Pool Tools80-562 560 Deluxe Cam Set Replacement

I broke the joint on my pool pole and ordered this. It's very inexpensive and completely fixes the pole, so it doesn't end up in a landfill. I didn't have any trouble installing it at all. It's a pressure fit. Just bump it on the ground a few times to seat it.

This is literally my first review and is in response to the previous one complaining about the lack of of instructions...that review gave me pause so i emailed the manufacturer and within minutes (no exaggeration) I had a pdf of the instructions. The instructions were also a doom and gloom about how difficult it would be to remove the old one but I bought it anyways. I figured worst case i would end up buying a new pole so decided to use a a 4 inch angle grinder to cut the old one off...literally took about 1 minute to remove it with no damage to the pole. I used some 3M spray glue to install the new one which has held great now for about a month and I don't see having any issues. The whole replacement effort took less time than it took to write this review.

I use 16' poles as I have a large pool; this puts a lot of stress on the coupling and this coupling does not handle it well

This replacement cam doesn't come with installation instructions. I can't figure out how to remove the old assembly from the pole. I am tempted to cut the outer tube to slide the new cam in but I'm worried it will not stay in place. There are no threads on it so it had to be put on permanently at the factory and probably glued in somehow. My old cam broke and now I'm stuck with a broken pole I can't use and a new cam that can't install. Until they come up with a better idea or clear instructions this replacement cam was a waste of time and money. One star because I could not give it zero.

I bought the JED 16 foot heavy duty pool pole several years ago because every other pole I owned didn't last. After several years (I live in Az and we have a long pool season) the external cam mechanism would no longer hold tightly and needed to be replaced. This is an inexpensive exact replacement and fit perfectly. I cut the old (lower) part of the mechanism off the external pole by splitting the plastic lengthwise my hacksaw, taking care not to cut into the pole. Once cut, a flat blade screwdriver opened the cut and the part slipped right off. A little sandpaper removed the old glue that held the part in place. I mixed and applied 2 part epoxy glue on 3-4 inches at the end of the external pole and fit the replacement (improved) part onto the pole. Be sure you get the new part all the way on so the end of the pole is against the stop collar inside the replacement part. I needed to tap it once with a rubber mallet to get the part fully seated onto the pole. Swap out the replacement end that slides on the narrow (internal) part of the pole and you're good to go.
