Nanuk 945 Waterproof Hard Case with Foam Insert - Graphite

I bought this case to fly with a firearm, where a lockable hard sided case is necessary. I first ordered the 935 which has wheels but after receiving and opening I was surprised the inside of the 935 is TINY. Yes, specs are obviously in the product descriptions I just assumed since the 935 is carry on size it would have comparable interior space to my other carry on bags, it does not. Since you obviously can't carry on a firearm, and I have other carry on bags with significantly greater interior space, I decided I would realistically never use the 935 as a carry on and as a result being within carryon specs was not an advantage to me, so I returned and replaced it with this larger case.After returning the 935 I debated between the 940 and 945 and ended up with the 945 partly because the price on amazon at the time including the padded divider and lid organizer was pretty attractive, I felt like get the bigger one if the price is similar. This is a great sized case, enough space to keep all my gear organized and the lid organizer with see through compartment helps a lot for smaller items. I ended up replacing my regular range bag for this, it's a little bigger than necessary but to open a case and have everything organized and easy to see is great. The padded dividers are also great, note Nanuk recently upgraded their padded divider - the new version is light gray. The 935 that I returned came with the older style black padded dividers (even though pics showed light gray), and the newer light gray style are significantly more robust - thicker, more rigid, more padded.I would definitely recommend getting the Nanuk carry strap - loaded up this thing gets pretty heavy. Wheels would be nice (the 935 has wheels) but wheels also add size and weight to the case and since this is checked size only you won't be carrying around the entire airport with it.The latches get a lot of talk on these cases, a lot of people like these latches better than the pelican style latches - these are great latches.For some reason, this has smaller padlock holes than the 935. I was aware of this before ordering so wasn't a surprise, and they are large enough to fit cheap travel locks, but the larger steel lined padlock holes of the 935 would have been nice. That's really my only knock on this case. 5 stars.

This is a great, protective, heavy duty case, but that comes at a cost and that cost is weight. If you can lug it around, this is a great case for all your equipment. It is very customizable and easy to change as your equipment collection grows adn evolves. I have no complaints and it suits my needs well.

Shell is okay; locks a bit over the top. BUT THE FOAM IS TERRIBLE!! After trying single edged razor blade, fine toothed Japanese saw, serrated steak knife, various handicraft carvers, gave up and s..canned the mess. Biggest problem is that the "pluck" layers on this monster are 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 in. thick, so it's impossible to make a straight through cut (and you MUST cut, because the foam doesn't "pluck"). Result looks like kindergarten work, even though I'm way past kindergarten, and in fact, a very good custom woodworker. Save yourself some headaches, buy the shell empty and get your foam from a supplier who only makes and sells foam. Or buy an Orion case - they're foam is easily plucked. Pluck your magic twanger, Froggie (anyone old enough to remember that one)?Addendum; taking my own advise I located a supplier of an excellent quality of foam, either plucked or unplucked. Try Foam Factory at foambymail.com I just finished redoing my 945 Nanuk for a Sky-Watcher 8 in. Mak-Cass OTA along with 2 in. diagonal, Celestron RACI finder scope and a Telrad as backup. Yah, I know that it makes the scope look a lot like the old Warthog plane!!Regarding the pluck foam, I found it much easier to work with 1 in. and 2 in. thickness. One of Nanuk's mistakes is making the foam much thicker to bring the cost down. If you're going to tote valuable items with complex shapes (like a lot of astronomic gear) the thinner foam gives a lot more flexibility in 3-dimensional shape be marking and plucking one layer at a time. Little more time consuming, but it actually makes the job enjoyable, or at least the end product more enjoyable.Back to the Nanuk 945. I like the case enough to have just ordered 2 more - but without any stuffing.

Another fantastic waterproof hard case. I bought the Nanuk 945 Waterproof Hard Case to protect my Crane 3 Lab gimbal. I use the gimbal for real estate videography, and wanted to make certain I could transport the gimbal in all weather conditions. Since I operate in south Florida, rain is a constant issue. The Nanuk 945 is the best solution to protect my gimbal. If there were a 10 star rating I would want to give the Nanuk 945 20 stars! I also have a Nanuk 950 for my camera gear. Nanuk hard cases are outstanding, and I highly recommend them!

Holds an amazing amount of stuff. A little pricey. But well worth it in my book.

I had recently purchased an alienware m17x r3 laptop and needed a case large enough to fit my laptop, power brick, mouse + pad with enough room to spare for cushioning to protect my investment. After searching many hours I'd almost settled on a pelican case when I found this one. The tear away foam interior gave me the ability to customize the case for each of my parts so I could make it into exactly what I needed it to be. The latches are a positive lock and will not come undone unless you depress the release latches to open them. I also like the ability to lock it which I do. What I don't like is that there are only two holes on the top of the case for either locks or the shoulder straps but not both so I have to remove the lock(s) before I can attach the shoulder straps. I wish it had provisions for the shoulder straps while keeping the locks in place. If you've got a large laptop and need something that will carry all of your hardware in a protective shell then consider this unit.

Nanuk is a great brand and the price for this one was perfect. The cube foam is a little more difficult to pluck than other brands so I use a soft plastic knife to remove one full piece of foam. Once you can get your whole hand down into the foam and pluck an entire piece from the middle outwards, it’s pretty easy. Getting started on the plucking is the hardest part and most people try and pluck from the top upwards, when you should really pluck from the middle of the cube outwards (far easier).Other than the foam the case is excellent, it’s very robust and offers excellent protection.

The picture of this case on Amazon doesn't do it justice. The fit and finish of this case is amazing and it looks much cooler in person than I expected. This case is definitely overkill for even the largest of notebooks if you are of the mind to use it for that purpose but you will be able to hold tons of stuff in addition to it if you wanted to go that route. If you have a very valuable PC that you travel with through less than ideal conditions then you won't be disappointed. I don't see any way the contents of this case could be damaged by shock, period. You could throw the case into a river and collect it downstream and it would probably be just fine.The main things I liked about this case are:1) Made in CANADA! Really happy to see a high quality product like this manufactured right here and am equally happy to support such companies.2) The latches are easily the best designed latches that I've seen on a hard case so far. Really fast and easy to fasten and unfasten while still leaving next to no chance that they will unlatch by mistake. Really, I can't stress how much I like the way they designed the latches.3) The lid has a stay built into it, so when you open it it positively locks open until you definitely want to close it by exerting some pressure. Really good idea.4) The handle at the top which lets you carry it like a suitcase is very convenient and also has a stay built into it that both keeps it locked down during transport and locked up when you want to move it. Some other designs are spring loaded to keep handles down only through the spring action and are not as convenient to put down and pick up again since the handles will retract as soon as you put the case down. I prefer this method of choosing the position you want and having it stay there.The only downside is, for the money, it really should come with the shoulder strap as standard but you do need to purchase it separately and IMO is overpriced. I am tempted to knock a star off because of the lack of the shoulder strap which is a natural thing for this shape of case to have and would have put it over the top if they had included it but I suppose nobody else includes it either.I'll definitely look at other Nanuk products if I have a need in the future, this case is worth your consideration if it's the right size for you.

Returned, not because of a problem just the size/shape did not work for me. Still a great case. Can't give a 5 since I returned.
