50 years from now people will use this book
First look: says what he wants to say and then quits. No fluff or filler. Good organization.Second look: an introductory tour guide, not an in-your-face atlas.Third look: no matter what kind of optical instrument you’re using, he’s got a view for you. Inclusive.

Amazing book, great for any interested in the moon!
50 Things to See on the MoonBy John ReadThis is the kind of book I wish I had 50 years old when I was young and interested in the moon! This has everything a new and inspiring scientist would want to know! It has everything you will will see but what to see it with and when. Then a daily chart. Each day shows what to look for on that lunar day. Tons of pictures. What to look for and where. Facts and tidbits about each thing. Historic pictures and info added also. Then, what you should expect to see through each of the three items (that is excellently described earlier) on viewing the moon's surface. Each lunar day is described in such detail! There is so much more too! So much is packed in this book! Great job!

Handy Guide for Young and Mature Moon Observers.
Introductory pages provide an overview in a logical progression. Page 15 shows an image of the 50 prominent things to see on the moon. Pages 16 and 17 show the lunar seas. Subsequent pages show features to observe each phase from new moon through full moon with depictions of views through binoculars, Newtonian telescopes, and telescopes with 90-degree diagonal mirrors. As a bonus, the book includes numerous interesting "Stellar Facts."This is an excellent book for all ages because it is easy to read, and it presents key information along with numerous helpful images.

A must for ANY selenophile
This book, along with the author's other books in the series are my go-to's whenever I head out with my telescope! I have also repeatedly recommended this, and the other books to many of my friends who ask me how they can get started learning basic astronomy! The author highlights features that require a telescope or that can be viewed with binoculars, and gives excellent background information and "Stellar facts." If you're a "moon child" like me, it's a must!

Good introduction
Good book to introduce the moon, but not a detailed atlas. Great for kids and those starting to view the moon.

Gives you a renewed appreciation for the moon
I remember going to an open house at the Kirkwood observatory on a night when they had the telescope fixed on the moon, disappointed that there was nothing more to see that particular night than the rough surface of the moon, and quickly ceding my spot to the next person in line. I don't think I could do that after reading this book. Every one of the 50 lunar landmarks comes with interesting background information to give you a little context on what exactly it is and frequently some interesting facts about how it was named or discovered. Much more importantly, there is really practical information for actually seeing these features in a variety of ways - images of how the features look with binoculars vs Newtonian vs refractor telescopes, the day in the lunar cycle on which it becomes visible, and broader background information on the Moon. It's also just really well laid out from a design perspective. As far as a gift for children, the vocabulary could be tough for 4th graders and younger but could be perfect for an advanced reader or middle schooler (or non-advanced readers who don't mind learning some new words). There's a glossary in the back too with astronomy and moon-geology specific terms, several of which were new to me. Wholeheartedly recommendeded.

Excellent book for beginners.
I enjoyed reading this book. It is very easy to follow and gives you a basic insight to sights to see on the Moon. I have other books on Moongazing, but this is a good start. Excellent value.
