Labelife: Good quality tape at a great price
After buying a P-Touch years ago, I loaded up on aftermarket tapes. I've been using some of them up and so put in an order for some replacements. These aftermarket tapes offer incredible value compared to the Brother branded options. I use these with a Brother PT-D600. It has a color screen that, when you use genuine cartridges, color matches the screen to the tape and text colors of the cartridge. I've found with these (as well as all the other aftermarket TZe tapes), the printer does not display the proper colors. It's not really a big deal to me and my uses, but thought it worth noting. I've also had issues with the printer detecting tape widths correctly in the past (usually on narrower tapes, like the 6mm ones), but these Labelife ones all register the correct width. I've also had one or two cartridges that fail to function at all, but these are all working fine. Compared to the previous tapes I've been using, these ones feel a little bit thinner, but doesn't necessarily feel weaker. The thinner material can be handy, as it seems to curve around non-flat surfaces a bit better whereas the slightly thicker tape doesn't want to flex quite as easily. I attached samples to a few different objects: smooth plastic, fabric, curved plastic, wrapped around a cable and adhered to itself, etc. I checked them a couple days later and they all performed as well as any of the other tapes I've used in the past, which is to say that none of the tapes really care to stick to fabric (not surprising) or certain plastics (such as the plug end of the particular power cable I tested-one of those ones that has an almost subtle "oily" sheen and feel to the plastic, if you know what I mean). About the only disappointment is that the red and fluorescent orange colored tapes are a bit washed out compared to what I've used in the past. Not a huge deal, but red has been my most used color and this one is a noticeably "pinker" red (it's more apparent in real life than I was able to capture in the photos and more comparable to the saturation difference of the orange tapes seen in my pictures). The yellow, green and blue are virtually identical in color and saturation to my previous ones. In the attached pictures, the new tape I'm reviewing is the one on the right side with text, while the small cuts of the old tape are just to the left. Would I purchase again? I sure would. I got a pack of 5 for about the same price as one and a half genuine Brother cartridges, so it's no contest for value. If having a bolder, more saturated red is very important, however, I'd explore other brands. I haven't used the new tapes extensively, but if I run into any issues I'll update my review. Pros: Price Sticks well Flexible Printer detects widths correctly Cons: Color saturation (red and fluorescent orange) Printer screen color does not function correctly with these
