great device. 7 hours continues recording in HQ mode (wav 64 kbps)
Purchased it used because was not sure how long it will be able to hold battery on one, single recording. Especially after reading one review with statement that in HQ mode it hols only 3 Hours. First thing I tested was this. Can prove now that it holds longer than 7 hours in this mode. Just check attached picture. Haven't tested other modes. Bought it as line in audio recorder, so mic recording is not really important. Files are stored in WAV format and no need to install additional software. Just connect to PC with USB cable and read it as disk drive. 4 stars because it can't record in MP3 format. WAV is 64kbps.

Nice recorder, but more recent, compact & modern models are better quality for voice recording, MP3, FM radio, & audio playback.
This voice recorder does work and records long-time with three settings for recording quality (which directly affects recording duration). The voice-activation feature is nice too, however, it takes a STRONG signal to activate the voice-activated record. Basically you have to be talking into it directly to actuate the auto-record feature. If you're using this to catch conversations at random then it is best to just leave it recording. Although this product works and is useful for recording, it is rather large, like a microphone as depicted, so is not very discrete for everyday use to record ambient conversation but is okay for personal dictation. Also, the recording is quite scratchy at the long-play setting & only somewhat less so at the standard-record setting. Battery life is acceptable for general dictation. All this said, I found a better, even more modern style RCA voice recording device at a local Target store for around $37 US which has less noise when recording, runs on only one AAA battery, which lasts around 8 hours continuous and also has an FM radio record feature - and great sound quality for MP3s. I strongly recommend the more modern & compact RCA voice recorder over this model. It's just a lot nicer.

Cheap recorder is cheap because it sucks.
Terrible audio quality, restrictive proprietary format (.voc format by default, option for .WAV recording), and a software suite that barely functions. Do not buy this recorder. It looks like a nice, cheap recorder that will fill the meager needs of an amateur but sadly those looks are deceiving. You will save yourself a lot of time and stress if you spend a little more on a better quality recorder (hopefully a smoother time transcribing).

I hear ya.
I use this for a little while, then replaced it with one for a few bucks more. Did not work the way I had hoped it would

A great open box buy. The transcription software is less than optimal though.
