Official Handbook of the Walking Dead Universe...
Back in the early 80s when I was an avid comic collector, I devoured the mini-series "Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe," a detailed guide to just about every superhero and supervillain on the Marvel roster. I'm currently a fan of "The Walking Dead" trade paperbacks, and this is a good reference for the series.FYI: Just in case you're looking for information on the TV show, this book doesn't cover that incarnation of "The Walking Dead" (although a marketing blurb on the back calls the Survivors' Guide a "can't-miss supplement" to it). We're dealing with the comic book saga here. That means you'll see bios for characters from the very first Walking Dead comic all the way to the Alexandria storyline (around issue 84 or up to the events in the "No Way Out" Volume 14 TP).The format is somewhat similar to (although less detailed than) the Marvel Universe handbook mini-series. Each character gets a mug shot, some action scenes, vital statistics, first/last issue number appearance, and an essay appropriate to their longevity. For example, a short-lived character like Arnold (one of Maggie's brothers) gets one page, while a mainstay such as Rick rates multiple pages of exposition. As with any character-bio one-shot or mini-series, "The Walking Dead: Survivors' Guide" will grow more obsolete as time goes by ("We Find Ourselves" Volume 15 TP is already on the stands). But it's a fun look back for long-time fans of the comic series and a helpful catch-up reference for newbies.

A nice idea that needs an update.
With The Walking Dead finally coming to a close, this guide needs a serious update. But at the same time, this book is in need of some major proofreading as there were quite a few grammatical errors and mistakes that were overlooked, like for example "The Best Defense" is titled twice in Rick's timeline under his name. Whoever edited this book needs to be fired. One character's status is stated as "living" when he's dead? He should be labeled as "deceased". There honestly could have been so much more to this guide like concept art and other bits of information and there wasn't.

Nice addition, but nothing special
Each character from the comic get a 1-2 page spread, with details about their origin, death, etc. It's a handy guide if you need a refresher, but I will say I was expecting a little more out of this. For example, it would have been nice to see some concept drawings of the characters (or any new artwork). Also, there were a few spots that could have used some editing (e.g. for one of the characters it says their prior occupation is unknown, then in the first paragraph describes their prior occupation). Not a lot of love put into this.

Walking Dead Survivors
I had no contact with this book since it was sent directly to nephew's inmate facility. However, he did not get it either as the facility censors denied delivery with no explanation of why he couldn't have it. The book was forwarded to his brother but I don't know if he even looked at it. Sorry, can't do more than give a 5 star rating since the book was delivered quickly and I was told it was in excellent condition. Thank you

Another great item!
Another great item for Walking Dead fans. I also bought this for my daughter (14 yrs old), we are huge fans of the series show. Cant wait to see the rest of this seasons shows. She finished this and informed me she wants to read them all!!She is also an artist and loves to draw comics so this also gave her ideas on how to set them up. So it was an all around great gift for her.

not much
this is a wasteof money, book itself is great ,but it's kind of pointless.you read the comics you know it already, when where why they appear.only the spoilers for the as of yet seen in series are usefull but it ruins it so why tell us let us findout our self,no back ground prelude, just a checklist of characters appearing no back story to them.title made me think it was original story,a survival guide showing and explaining the contributions survivor made and elaborating on.no original, useful anything.

The story is so fantasic, why does the secual violence havev to be so morbidly immature?
I really enjoyed this comic. It had been years since I read one. And I like seeing what ends up in the tv show and what doesn't. The only thing is the sex, cusing and violence is so immature. It's as if a bunch of crude college boys got together and thought, "Whoa, dude, thatvwould be so cool." It's so demeaning to women.

Nice addition to my collection
I've got several Walking Dead things, all the comics, all the novels and all the series. So I thought this would be a nice addition, and it was. Make sure you know before ordering though, that this is not a survivor's manual, it is a guide to the survivors/characters in the comics. So really you'd have to have read up to issue #80 ish to be able to read it, otherwise not only would it not make sense but it also contains a lot of spoilers. It doesn't give you any new information, it just summarises what's already been said about each character which is quite useful if you haven't got the best memory. I would recommend it, I think the bad reviews are from people who weren't aware of what they were ordering. It is a very thin book but features all the main characters and is just an addition to the comics.

This is a nice piece to have for the completist fan of the ...
This is a nice piece to have for the completist fan of the series, and it will look nice on my shelf along with the collected TPB (Trade Paper Back) volumes. I started collecting those right from the off (much better value than individual comics nowadays). The one problem I'm having with this is that it clearly fits into the series at a specific point. It would be very useful for this volume to record exactly which issue of the comic and TPB volume it goes up to. The characters' individual stroy arcs are clearly listed under the TPB titled, but unless I've missed it, I'll have to flick through every entry to slot it into place with my collection. It'll be useful for Herself when she gets to the right point in the comics, but as I'm now up to date with TPB Vol 23, I'm rather past this one now. I did notice that there is a small numeral '1' on the spine, though, which implies that in due course we'll see an update. (According to the wiki, it appears this Volume 1 is a compilation of four different, comic-book sized volumes that came out some time back... http://walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/The_Walking_Dead_Survivors%27_Guide) I'd definitely buy that again (it's been fascinating being reminded of characters that I'd compleetely forgotten about, as well as comparing them to how their television version has fared), but it would be so much more useful if it was clear exactly which chunk of the overall print run it covers so it could be slotted in at the right point in my collection.... Update soon, please, Mr Daniel.

Could do better
The actual content and information surrounding each character is nice and useful. However, I am a little bit disappointed over the sizing of the book. The total pages are less than a trade paper back (6 issues). For something that covers the first 14 volumes of the series, I expected a bit more. Not all characters are covered, for example.A must if, like me, you collect and keep all things Walking Dead, just don't expect it too set the post-apocalyptic world alight.

Good input in my collection.
Since a fan and collector of all the volumes of Walking Dead Series, I found this guide quite interesting and useful to keep track of characters and their stories! Looking forward for the second one!
