If you are using on a buell, beware
Why did you pick this product vs others?:Although I have it 5 stars, if you use this on a Buell xb, the nut built in to the filter will require you to remove the bottom cowl and brace.

Well made, fit my Buell XB12S, a bit shorter than the HD? It replaced.
I used the KN-177 on both a 07 and 08 Buell XB12S. The 08 had a KN-177 on it when I acquired the bike. The KN-177 is a little shorter than the filter it replaced on the 07 (not possitive of the brand it replaced but most likely a HD as this is the brand of oil that the previous owner used). I can not confirm the preformance of this filter as to whether its filtration is better or worse or if it it is more or less restrictive as compared to other filters. But I can confirm that it is well made of heavier gauge steel than most filters. The nut made of stamped sheet metal that is spot welded to the filter is very convenient for removel, the nut has it's limitations, I have a Bike with a Jagg oil cooler adapter, that is not machined as smoothly as it should be and have rounded the nut off, but I have to admit, I had to make a wrench out of sheet metal that gripped the entire filter so tight it deformed the filter before it loosened, I would not have believed how much force it took to remove the filter if I had not been the one to remove the filter.

Quality & Reliability
Needed a replacement oil filter for a motorcycle I purchased. Always rely on K&N to deliver high quality products so I switched out the basic filter it had for K&N. I know I won’t have to worry about it doing the job and look for it to work for many miles keeping the engine in top shape.

So easy to remove.
Have been using K&N oil filters on my cars and motorcycles for some time now. It seems like a quality item and I like the ability of being able to use a wrench or socket on them when taking them off, just have to be careful that you do not put them on too tight. Never had a problem getting a K&N filter off like with some other brands, never had one leak either, so I will pay the few dollars more for peace of mind and ease of installation & removal.
