Very nice player
Slim design and well built. I had no issues and great resolution using both the NTSC and PAL formatted discs. As a personal observation, I think the stability of the unit and design of the remote control keys can be challenging. The two front feet are 2.5 inches from the edge while the back feet are only 1 inch. Also, the remote control can be tricky since the scan and skip functions are in the shape of the traditional vertical volume and channel keys. To be fair, the player will tilt down only if you apply pressure to the top front portion. The included user's manual has great instructions on how to use the remote control. Also included are 2 starter AAA batteries although I feel more comfortable using my own quality alkaline batteries. I plan on using this player to play memorable videos while travelling since some of my relatives and friends rely heavily on streaming only. Overall, a quality DVD player at an affordable price.

Works great and easy to set up
I just received it and got it hooked up. Easy to hook up and dvd's play great. I haven't tried it with the other aspects it says it does, but so far excellent item for the price.

A simple but well-made device that just plays DVDs
When our old DVD player stopped playing, I thought it would be easy to find a new one. It wasn't. DVD players serve a technology that has almost completely been replaced by streaming services. I was so relieved when I read the reviews of the Megatek DVD player, written by people in my situation who want a simple but well-made device that just plays DVDs. As other reviewers mentioned, the quality of image and sound is high. One reviewer expressed concern about the remote. The Megatek remote is similar to our old remote but the labels on the various buttons are clearer and more helpful. I found it easier to use.

Works as expected, easy set-up
Easy to set up. I used the HDMI cable. It is easy to operate. I took off one star because the font that shows up on my TV looks clunky and dated. But since fewer people buy and play DVDs, I probably should have expected this. The price was right and I was happy to have the player.

I found it to be a good buy
I am very happy with the dvd player. Have used it for a few weeks and it's works great. I watch a lot of old tv shows with multiple episodes on one disc and it has no problem playing one episode after another.

Outstanding Customer Service
I know DVDs are beginning to be a thing of the past but I still love the excitement of selecting a DVD from my collection or online and putting it in a player for movie night. I purchased this Megatek DVD player in 2024 (this review is being written in 2025). I chose it for the reviews, the size, and the multi region ability as I had a DVD series that was not of this region. The item arrived promptly and worked perfectly until it didn't. Out of nowhere I turned it on and it wpuld not power on. Granted I only paid less than $30 & DVD players are fairly cheap these days, but I decided to go back to Amazon to see if there was a warranty & see exactly when I purchased it. It did have a warranty but of course I was a bit late then I noticed a sticker on the unit with a customer service email address. On last Saturday at midnight (a holiday weekend) I sent an email letting then know it stopped working & asking if there was anything they could do. Not expecting anything, of course. I especially didn't expect anything after midnight on a Labor Day weekend. But, to my surprise the next morning I had an email reply from them. The expressed their appreciation for my order & apologies for the unit which they felt may have been defective. They asked for my Amazon order # & my address. I replied with the info and to my absolute surprise they emailed me back on a Sunday to let me know they were expediting another unit out to me. Wow!!! You just do not see this level of customer service these days!!! Then on Tuesday just as they said, I received a replacement unit- which I am currently using to watch a sitcom I have on DVD. I just want to express how impressed I am with everything. THIS is what we need more of these days - a company that stands behind their products & values you for choosing to spend your money with them. A HUGE THANK YOU TO MEGATEK FOR AN OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE...YES, I'M YELLING. Insert smile here....

Good value
The item failed to work “out of the box” but the replacement process was simple and the new unit works fine. This is the third time I’ve purchased this product: I watch a lot of non-US standard DVDs; however, the unit also works well as a CD player, so I’ve added units to my stereo system as well.

I bought this unit from an Australian seller who drop shipped it from the USA so it has a US style plug which is useless for Australian power outlets. Back it goes. Why do sellers do this? It's just incompetent.

I set up an out-of-use (HDMI-capable) TV in my exercise room and wanted a DVD player to go with it. I figured I would buy this one for my main TV and move my cheapie DVD player from there to this new setup. But the feature that allows DVDs to be played where you left off was attractive. I don't finish a DVD before I finish exercising, so I decided to use this player in the exercise room. BTW, that feature works well and is VERY handy. The picture is good as is the audio. I also was able to play an out-of-zone DVD with no trouble. For the price asked, it seems good value for all the features. I haven't linked the TV and DVD remotes so can't say about the ease of this. But it all setup easily, except... [UPDATE Aug 23, 2020: Even though my old cheapie player still works, it does not have HDMI, upscaling, multi-zone, or last play memory, so I bought a second one of these Megatek players for my main TV setup. The one described below with the 4:3 problem is hooked up to an inexpensive Insignia TV. I now have more experience playing the other one, which is hooked up to an expensive and more recent LG OLED TV. With this setup, I CAN get 4:3 playback using HDMI. I have to go into the LG's setup menu and select 4:3, but it all works. BTW, the picture does look good (relatively speaking since this is older material I'm looking at). So as I suspected, it seems that the TV in use DOES come into play regarding 4:3 playback using HDMI. The catch seems to be not with this DVD player, but the TV in use with it. It is impossible to know what the situation will be with your TV's interaction with this DVD player until you try it. I never had this problem with my old player and the Insignia TV because I could only use component. When I swapped in this Megatek player I assumed the problem previously described below was with the player. My apologies to Megatek. I'll go 5 stars.] Many of the DVDs I play on this set are of older material. Specifically, they are in 4:3 (old TV) format. I have found that if you only hook up HDMI and play back using HDMI, the 4:3 source material will be stretched left and right. Personally, I do not like this effect. I have thoroughly gone through the setup menus of both this player and my TV and cannot override this. The workaround is to hook the DVD player to the TV with component cables. (Possibly the single-cable 'Video' output/input would work, too, but that really is poor quality, even for this older material.) When you insert a 4:3 DVD you can go to SETUP > GENERAL > TV DISPLAY >and set to 16:9, and this should now display 4:3 format discs in the center of the screen (i.e. no stretching). But, this only works with component cabling, not HDMI. (If you do use component cabling, make sure to go SETUP > VIDEO > COMPONENT > and set to YUV, or you will get nothing through those component cables.) It is possible that your TV will display 4:3 normally (depending on the TV and the settings). Component cabling doesn't allow for the same video quality as HDMI. But source material old enough to be in 4:3 is likely to NOT be in high-def. So, this isn't a big problem. And you can still hook up using HDMI cable as well, and toggle back and forth with your TV remote. It isn't an elegant solution, but works well enough. Luckily I still had some decent quality video and audio cables to do this extra hookup.

It only worked for few DVD’s and then the door stuck and does not open. It’s a waste of money.
