In terms of audio quality, what is the difference between this and an amplifier only like the PM6006 ?

Thanks very much for your question. They share the great Marantz build quality. The audio quality of the PM 2 channel amp is superior. Chassis size is the same but the NR1510 is loaded with 5 amplifier channels but a smaller power supply given the space limitations. The PM power supply is more robust and the two channels have more heat sink area. The difference in rated power is moot, except that as you add 5 speakers for surround the effective rated output power per 5 channels driven at the same time drops considerably - so much so that most manufacturers do not provide a power rating, all channels driven, 20 - 20K at x% THD. The PM6006 is for music, in stereo, with a pair of decent speakers that actually provide a sound stage. If you did a listening test, NR1510, a pair of speakers, front left and right channels only verses the PM6006, you will hear a difference. The differences may be subtle but real, and the more you listen the more you will hear. What a great question you asked.

Yes. I currently have my Bose Acoustimass 6 Series V Home Theater Speaker System, which uses the same AV cable connectors as yours, connected to my Marantz NR1510. Works and sounds excellent.
