You get what you pay for
I did not purchase this from this vendor, but the armor I own is *identical* to the one pictured here, so my review is based off that.I was informed that this is high carbon steel, which does appear to be correct. Unless you plan on putting some kind of coat or finish on this, be prepared to oil this thing fairly frequently, it WILL rust if you even think about sweating in it. This takes alot of maintainence to keep it from rusting. I finally gave up and am going to paint and lacquer it, but the constant battle with rust is only part of the issue.Construction is very cheap. The "authentic" brass fittings are all fine and dandy for looks, but they bend very easily. The loops that hold the hinges in place at the shoulders and for the buckles are constantly being bent open, as well as the loops for the lacing in front. The outer straps are of decent quality, and have held up well to punishment. What hasn't are the rivets and leather that keep the shoulders and upper chest together. The washers that they used on the back side of the rivets are paper thin, and so is the leather! I had top shoulder plate come loose on me as I took it out of the box!!! Between the upper assembly coming apart, and the constant uphill battle with rust, I am going to be completely replacing the leather inner straps, and re-riveting the entire upper area. That all being said, I still love this armor, it works great for my Live Action Role Playing game, wears nicely, and is not that restrictive to move in. The good fuctional use I get out of it evens out the poor quality in the craftsmanship, so like I said, you get what you pay for! It's a fair deal for someone on a budget, but you better be ready to put in much time oiling and polishing to make it worth it. If maintainence to that level is not what you had in mind, buy something in stainless.

Can't beat the protection
After dumping my motorcycle in my old leather jacket, I noticed that the street rubbed right through. I got a nasty patch of road rash on my back as a result. Then I asked myself, "Well, what would you do if your leather armor couldn't cut it in a video game? UPGRADE TO PLATE!" This Roman Lorica has at least 25 extra armor value over your standard leather motorcycling jacket, and its segmented design allows for continued protection even after minor failures. Great protection from wind, sand, and the occasional Visigoth.
