Great look and very sturdy.
These really finished the look of my Overhaul HD rack and make the whole system more sturdy. I bought the long bed version thinking I would need some additional length to accommodate my nearly 83” bed rail but it turns out the mountable surface on my bed rails was much shorter. I ended up removing the extra lengths of side bar and it fit perfectly. In the end I’m still happy with the purchase knowing that if I ever chose to sell the system it will fit any full size truck regardless of bed length but you could likely get away with just the short bed (5’) side bars if you have a GM or Chevy with a 6’6” bed.

Great accessory for the rack
These are easy to install and are very solid. Using to carry rotopax accessories…

Good accessory with slight design flaw...
The Overhaul HD rack system is absolutely awesome. I do not regret purchasing these side rails as an accessory, but I do wish they were designed a little better. The problem is that the bolts used to attach each of the side rails to their corresponding corner post are way too small. The split lock-washers that it comes with are quite thick with a lot of spring to them, so you have to press very hard with the allen wrench in order to compress the lock washer down for the threads of the bolt to catch. Once it catches, you don't get many turns at all. Maybe 1.5 or 2 complete rotations, and that's it. You better hope that first thread doesn't strip under the pressure because you'll be out of luck if it does. It's a bummer because the rails themselves, and the entire system is pretty bulletproof. I think these rails do offer a good amount of stiffness to the overall rack system, and could provide another option for tie-downs or accessories in some situations.... but I would not rely on them for heavy loads due to those bolts holding them on. Use the main posts and cross bars for that.

These complete me
A little pricey but great way to complete the HD rack system, and they look fantastic. Easy way to store long items like paddles, etc. I think for the price Yakima should include a handful of locking rings to attach instead of having to search and buy those separately. Would recommend to anyone with the HD racks.

High quality construction, built to last.
Dislike the price, but if know Yakima products, always $$$, but they hold their value and durable.

Not up to Yakima standards
First of all, this does the basics of what it says it does; it acts as a side bar between the upright posts on Yakima’s mounts. In my case the HD uprights. Cons TL;DR: No locking hardware. Bolts are too short to install well. The biggest con’s in my observation we’re first, there are no security mechanisms. This is standard with with every Yakima piece of equipment I’ve ever gotten. If they had taken the time to replace the mounting bolts with security bolts, this would have been great, but they didn’t and this was a huge problem for me. It breaks with the ethos and them me of Yakima equipment. Second, the consideration installation was very short sighted. With the HD uprights, you need to put the nylon shim between the side bar and the upright. The hardware consists of a bolt, locking washer, washer, side bar mounting piece, nylon spacer, then the upright. All of the pieces creates too much distance for the bolt to engage and thread correctly. I had to leave the locking washer out, or compress them with a pair of grips. Really poor engineering here. The pros are that the build quality overall looks well. No abnormal metal burs, no bad paint jobs, and it’s ready to go to work. Would I buy it again, maybe… but I’d go to a local dealer and see if I could get replacement bolts and hardware.
