really flavorful white pepper
I use pepper in everything I cook. I was thrilled when the ban on Szechuan pepper was lifted in 2005, so I could go to a regular supermarket and buy it. I guess you could say I'm kind of into spices.Pepper is actually a fruit, like a tiny cherry. All the types of peppercorns have a different flavor. When the unripened fruit is dried it's called green pepper. When it is ripened fully and dried, it's called black pepper. When you take the peppercorns and remove the fruit pulp, leaving only the seed ("the cherry pit"), it's called white pepper.Good white pepper comes from the Muntok region of Western Bangka Island in Indonesia. They soak the peppercorns in water to remove the fruit pulp, and the flavor is deep and winey. Excellent white pepper is grown on Borneo Island in Sarawak, Malaysia; and they rinse away the fruit pulp under a stream of water, which leads to a very clean bright flavor.Penja pepper comes from the Penja Valley in Cameroon, Africa. So, it's from a completely different part of the world and you can certainly tell the difference in the flavor profile. It's rich, earthy, and incredibly complex. At the same time -- and this was a surprise to me since I find most African spices more pungent -- it is quite subtle and does not have the same biting "peppery" attack that I expected.I think is used alone, this would be a great choice for those who are looking for a very complex, flavorful white pepper -- it's very well suited for cream soups, fish, and poultry. It's also a great choice for those who enjoy the flavor of pepper, but don't like things too hot and spicy. For myself, it is definitely a keeper! I've added this to my usual blend of black Tellicherry, white Sarawak and green Madagascar peppercorns to give a nice well-balanced "all-purpose" pepper blend.

Delicious pepper
I’ve been on a white pepper kick for a while now, so I thought I’d try what’s supposed to be the finest kind. I was not disappointed. This pepper is delightful!

fantastic pepper
This is the best pepper I've ever had; not harsh like many black peppers; it's a light, warm heat that is about perfect. The prices has gone up like 40 percent since I first bought it; and I can see why; this stuff is awesome and worth it at double the price.

TRASH- TRASH- TRASH. PLEASE, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
I bought this product before and received what I needed. I bought it again and receive TRASH. A yellow looking powder like Tumeric but does not smell like it at all. And I can not return it. If this is how you do your business by cheating on the customer, I pray that your business COLAPSES.

Raw sewage
I gagged when I opened the can. It smells somewhere between rotting flesh and raw sewage. I had always heard that poor process could lead to some off flavors in white pepper, but I never realized it could be this bad.
