Love this movie
Love this movie. Big Monty Clift fan and in my opinion, this is him at his very best. Camera didn't give him enough good shots to please me. He was so handsome. Like the way he played this part. You never really know, was he good or was he bad. Her acting was SUPERB!

In my top five best films of all time.
De Havilland won The Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Catherine Sloper, only child of a widowed father. Montgomery Cliff gives one of his very best performances as Catherine's suitor, Morris Townsend. And Sir Ralph Richardson plays Dr. Sloper, Catherine's father with forensic precision. He dispenses his passive aggressive remarks with a robust smile, and honeyed tones. To the naive or uninitiated his well developed, charming demeanor masks his true nature. Favorite line, "Oh Katherine can you be so cruel? Yes, aunt, I can be very cruel. For I have been taught by masters",

Very good movie
I liked the poster that came with it and added features. The main character did embroidery as a hobby, so the cover of movie/poster/beginning of movie makes sense in regards to this hobby. I've seen this movie many times. Moral of the story? Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Fantastic Movie
The Heiress is one of the best acted movies of all time. Olivia DeHavilland is just phenomenal and won the Oscar and Montgomery Clift and Ralph Richardson were also superb. It's one of my favorite movies.

Wonderful movie
If you love old Hollywood movies, with superb actors Olivia and Montgomery, this is one of the great ones. Superb acting. Movie is based on Washington Square. The Blu-Ray is awesome, clear picture, wonderful sound, and excellent packaging which includes a beautiful poster of Catherine pictured as an embroidery, and includes details about the movie on the back of the poster.

I finally pushed the button! Trust me, you will be satisfied
I finally pushed the button to make this purchase!! I had read's different reviews and different sellers offering this movie title that I have been wanting to rewatch for so many years, I finally made the choice. I decided to go with this Criterion Collection. Some people complained that the cover looked suspect but the reason the cover looks the way it does, is because the character did needlework as so many women did in this period. In my opinion, I think if the needlework was in color that would look suspect to me, as this is a black and white film.*Packing-great, comes with insert about the film and and needlework picture of cover*I thought the picture was pretty clear, although it did show some grain in it at times but nothing to say "yikes return"!!* Now it did pause in 2 areas. I just overlooked that and said ok.*Sound was great* While aunt Penniman waits with Catherine downstairs, it seems as though a part of Catherine's anguished scene has been cut. That was kinda disappointing, I seem to remember this very poinent scence when I watched it on the 70's.*I would not return this DVD. Remember this is blue-ray, and require blue-dvd player which I had to run out and buy.

Good Condition
I enjoy the movie. Maybe came in good condition and had no problem while watching it. I would order another movie from supplier.

Wonderful film, great performance - and don't worry, the cover art is not what it seems
This was indeed a great film, although parts of it almost hurt to watch. De Havilland's sensitive performance did not just show what an "ugly duckling" feels like -- she showed how profoundly extreme shyness and social awkwardness can turn someone into an ugly duckling outcast no matter how physically beautiful their features may be. And the soft but unrelenting cruelty in the father-daughter dynamic was heartbreaking. Maybe Montgomery Clift was too callow from the start, but the rest of the cast was great. Please do not be put off by a review that complained about the cover art. It does look a bit strange, but that is just because it is not meant to represent a photo or a painting. It's needlework, which has an important symbolic role in the story. Once you see the film, you realize that because it's needlework, it's not just a portrait of the character but a commentary on the film's whole plot.

The Heiress
Olivia De Havilland won her second Oscar for this film. A brilliant performance by De Havilland as a young woman and daughter of a very wealthy man. Soon a young man enters her life and love is in the air. But the life experienced father doesn’t trust the intended suitor, thinking the young man only cares for the money that the daughter will one day inherit.
