This is an excellent rangefinder. The optical clarity is great and in ...
After sifting through plenty of reviews for this and other rangefinders, I was dying to try this one out after deciding to pull the trigger on it. It seems you can find a bunch of whiners and crybabies out there for just about every rangefinder on the market and they sure do a hell of a job mucking up product ratings and adding a healthy dose of confusion to the mix. So I hope I can shed some light on this particular model, and rangefinder purchases in general. First off: This is an excellent rangefinder. The optical clarity is great and in foggy, rainy conditions it never fell through for me. After 3 days in rain sighting in bows and rifles, I can vouch for the waterproof body and had no problem at all with foggy lenses or inaccurate readings. The ARC system is a huge plus as a bowhunter and I found it was a great comfort to know both the line of sight and true horizontal distances with the push of a button. For those complaining of inaccurate distances or inconsistency, I'd recommend you take account of your own form while taking readings before bashing this device. A steady hand goes a long way and can clear up the odd off reading here or there. As far as max distance goes, it's clearly stated in the product description (of just about any rangefinder) that max distance is for highly reflective and large targets (best case scenarios). I had no problem generally sighting trees, stands, signs, and more from about 400 yards and closer. Obviously the further out you go the more steady you need to keep your grip and I found bracing against something as if you were looking through a rifle scope was the best bet. I didn't have the opportunity to use it much further than that, but I think common sense dictates the unit's effectiveness across various circumstances. If you're glassing elk from 1000 yards away on a consistent basis, you might want to invest in a higher end model. If you need a reliable bowhunter's companion for anything within a few times your bow range, I'd highly recommend this device. If I had to talk about some cons for this purchase, I would probably have to say that against certain backdrops, the black readings are a bit hard to see. dawn or dusk readings or low light can pose a challenge. However, the unit will take an accurate reading under these conditions. It's just a matter of you being able to read what it displays. I found you can take the reading and then utilize the 30 seconds it displays the last measurement by pointing the device to the sky where the black text has more contrast to be readable. I'd also criticize a lack of a proper lens cover. The case is alright but as basic as it get and I'd probably upgrade to something more deliberate to protect the actual device. I'd also probably go with an upgrade lanyard as the one that comes with is as basic as they come. Hope this helps those who are looking for a solid, entry level rangefinder for hunting. Golfers, I suggest you find a golf specific model instead of whining about a hunting centric rangefinder not finding the pin at 1000 yards...

Bushnell Scout DX 1000 Rangefinder
The instructions could have been written better to make it easier to understand therefore the 4 star rating. After going on-line to the bushnell.com site I could set it up with the rifle caliber & bullet weight I'll be using. I haven't used it yet on a hunt. I physically measure some objects in my yard and tested this rangefinder to see if it was reading correctly. It did readout correctly to the objects I was aiming it at. I bought this model bc it was rated waterproof and has the ARC feature for bullet drop. I know its made specifically for Archery or Rifle but, I'm going to try to use it on the golf course and hope it'll work for that too. The rangefinder itself looks well made and light weight. The 6X was clear enough for my old eyes.UPDATEI used it on the golf course and it could not read the flag pole, apparently the pole is too skinny. U can range it to the front of the green or if a group in front of U is on the green it'll pickup the person holding the flag and give U a accurate reading. I compared it to a buddies Bushnell Golf Range finder and it displayed the same yardage as my Scout DX. So it'll work on the golf course just do as I explained above. Now I'm getting the best BANG for MY BUCK for this multi-use range finder changing the rating to 5 STARS now.

Seller is trash honestly.
Honestly I'd give the item 5 stars, but the seller is my issue. The item came already opened, they shipped it in a plastic bag, and I was extremely surprised to find out it wasn't shattered. The item got lost in shipping most likely due to it being in a literal bag.Overall the product does what it says 350 yards to deer which is perfect for bow hunting. The angle works well and the yardage is fairly accurate. Great range finder for the price.0/10 for the seller.10/10 for bushnell making a superior product.

Excellent rangefinder. Compact, easy to use, does the job quickly and easily
I love it!Let me begin by saying I'm not a hunter, and my applications only involve measuring ranges up to a couple of hundred yards. So I can't comment on it's long range capabilities. Within the ranges I use it for, it works flawlessly. Just site a target and press the button, and the distance is displayed almost immediately. You can hold the button and move the pointer, and the distance reading will give you a real-time readout of whatever you point at.The unit is compact, light and easy to hold. It comes with a canvas carrying case with belt loop and a neck lanyard.I have only two minor gripes/suggestions:1. In Regular mode, I wish it would display the inclination angle in the lower numeric field.2. I wish it could display distances in feet. The only choices are yards and meters.

Really good deal
Bought to replace a Hawk LRF400 which I found difficult to see the range as it was displayed at the top of the screen. The Bushnell Scout is so much better I can see the range quite easily and I really like the fact that it shows tenths of a yard. I must admit that I'd had the advantage prior to ordering of trying a friends. It's just a shame that I had to order it from the USA to get a really good price rather than buying from Amazon UK. US seller was really helpful in keeping down international delivery and brokerage charges

Low price for a reason
I was disappointed with this product. I returned one unit thinking it was defective since it would only work out to 230 yards, but the replacement was only a little better. Under those ranges it worked well. I am not sure if I received 2 defective products or if it is a poor choice of advertising (DX 1000) implying it would work out to 1000 yards. If you need a bow range finder this unit would meet your needs. The ARC featured worked on both units from my bow stand.

For now hunting it is fantastic. Only complaint is that display is a bit ...
Was looking for something that I could use for both bow hunting and golf. This works perfectly for both. Using the bullseye mode to target the reflector on top of the golf flag works 95% of the time on the first try. For now hunting it is fantastic. Only complaint is that display is a bit tough to read in very very low light. All in all solid multipurpose range finder

Bon article
