My battery went out also. I took it to the neighborhood jewelry repair store and he popped in a new battery in 5 minutes with only a small fee. It has been working great ever since

Q: Can you replace the band with a leather band?

There are pins that you can remove, but I think finding a leather band to fit would be difficult because of the shape of the connection. May be easier and cheaper to just buy another watch with a leather band.
