The basic concepts in one simple book

What a terrific visual condensed version of the truth
This was such a great 'read' to walk through the masters in business administration. Having run and co-run several businesses (both successfully and unsuccessfully), this would have been a terrific tool to have. It would be great for our next gig to share with the entire team so everyone has a sense of what it takes to make a business successful, what to measure, and what matters. This is a great condensed version of a lot of information. I heartily recommend it to anyone wanting to sharpen their sword and pick some part of starting and running a successful business to further consider.

Not as good as I thought
There are too many vague points that come from the courses. And it sounds like only those who attended those courses can understand the ideas mentioned. Overall it’s a good summary of things you already know but useless for those who want to learn.

Well written/drawn summation of an MBA
Having completed my own MBA, in an in-person class setting (not online), I learned so many valuable topics and yet often find myself trying to recall a principle that has escaped me. This book provides a wonderful refresher and helps me recall things I had learned. In the past I would pull up my personal notes (typed up in Google Docs, or written directly on the cases), only to find that I didn't take that good of notes. Now, I'll have a much better and visual way of reviewing what I had learned/forgotten, and even learn new topics I hadn't covered. In addition, the breadth is enormous... I believe it covers almost all the courses I had in my own MBA, plus some that I didn't take. For example, while I did learn some about global business, this book has a full chapter assigned to it. One of the topics discussed in that chapter is the CAGE distance framework, which helps a manager think about global business outside simply a geographic distance, including cultural, administrative, geographic and economic distance differences between your potential customers. As I'm currently working on some cross the globe business projects I'll be turning to this section frequently to make sure I'm best aligning my targeting.Anyhow, all around great book, and I'm happy to have it in my business arsenal!

Great introduction or refresher.
Packed is the word! Distilled to the essence is the result. Quick read due to the diagrams and illustrated notes. As an MBA holder, I must admit he covers the topics fairly well, but as in many things, the devil is in the details. And frankly, doing the assignments is what really leads to a level of comfort and understanding so no book of notes will ever replace that.Still, a useful guide for those who wish to "hold their own" in basic business discussions but who have no desire to get bogged down in scholarly academic writings. The book also makes one appreciate the use of real life case studies common to most MBA programs and the interaction among the students of various specialties that tend to mimic real life interactions.

Visual = Gamechanger
I am an avid reader and have tried to get through other MBA books. It's been so difficult to do -- that is, before this book. I keep stopping and starting on the others and rereading chapters hoping it will stick. This book is excellent as it doesn't get too deep into the details of each subject/chapter. It gives you an amazing baseline with great nuggets of information along with visual aids. I went through half of it the first two evenings i had it. It'll also be a great reference guide to go back through since it's divided in organized chapters.I'm so grateful for this book! I'm hoping after i finish this one, it may make the more thorough book easier to read if i really want to get into the details.

Easy to Grasp Complex Topics
I have always subscribed to the idea that we think in pictures. We read words that our imagination transforms into pictures that we can understand. Jason has merged both in this very helpful book. I especially liked the chapter on decision making. And he makes you aware of certain thinking biases that are sure to creep in on you throughout your entrepreneurial journey.

Very high level but a fun read
The concepts are discussed at a very macro level but it's a fun read with cool illustration. I would pair this with "The 10 day MBA" if you want a holistic view of what pursuing an MBA entails.- MBA aspirant

A bluffers guide to business principles
Jason Barron's book looks to distill down business principles into more easily understandable formats. The book has been translated into a number of European languages since it was published in 2019, which is a good indicator of the book's utility. So I thought I would take the time to see how I got on with it and whether it lives up to its premise.Areas covered in The Visual MBAThe content of The Visual MBA is broken down into a number of areas including:LeadershipCorporate financial reportingEntrepreneurship (management and financial focus)Management accountingBusiness financeMarketingOperations managementHRStrategyEthicsDecision makingStartupsThe book itself is a robust hardback book that would be fine in a daypack lugged around campus. As with any book there are things that could be put in and taken away. My impression of the content is that would be useful to someone studying business at A'level or in the first year of an undergraduate degree. I personally found the marketing section frustrating. Part of the reason for this is that the depth of the subject was barely scratched. Readers were not prompted to even ask the right kind of questions. There was nothing that would spur you to read more and read widely. I suspect that this would be the case with the other areas covered by the book as well. It creates the false confidence that would appeal to a surface player. I think that is dangerous for readers and the businesses that they work for.Do I think the premise of the book works? The book neatly summarises many of the key concepts that would be taught in a general business course and it explains the points in a simple manner. For instance the idea of balance sheets reminded me of the first semester in the first year of my marketing degree in terms of its explanations.Where I am less sure of the book's benefits was whether the illustrations would make me retain any better the content of the book? I will ignore the fact that for some pages the drawings weren't illustrated but instead representations of the headlines in a hand drawn typography. I might the book beneficial if they were my diagrams that I was sketching in my notes. But I don't think they have the same effect on a reader of the book.In summary I would recommend that one buys the book as a simple guide to business studies or commerce rather than the visual aide memoire that the book seems to promise.

It’s ok but very basic
This is not an MBA book.. at best it’s a useful revision guide for someone at A Level or GCSE. I read it in about 4 days.

Kompakte Ratgeber

Incredibly helpful
Breaks down some easier and tougher aspects of business. Covers all the bases at an introductory level. Accessible and comprehensive yet still useful for beginners.
