Lasted over 7 1/2 years
Bought this sharpener in 2012, over 7 years ago. It no longer sharpens pencils to a fine point, but it was well worth the purchase for working like a heavy duty sharpener and lasting this long. Decided to buy a different brand for $20, and just tried it this morning. It apparently has a much weaker motor - sharpens in only 1/2 second spurts, not continuously until either released or reaching a sharp point. Now planning to return the new one and will probably re-purchase this Bostitch again.

Let's Get Right to the Point...
This is a fine electric pencil sharpener. As others have remarked, it is very quiet in operation. It gives you a nice sharp pencil point, and if I understand its operation correctly, it stops sharpening further once the point is sharp, although the motor continues to run. I also appreciate the vertical configuration of the sharpener, enabling a minimal footprint on a crowded desk. Others have complained that the shavings compartment could be larger, but this won't be a problem for a single user, or the "executive" for whom the unit is apparently designed. I use the sharpener once a day before I draw my comic strip, and I only have to empty the shaving compartment every few weeks. Finally, it's a nice looking sharpener, sleek and modern. Get my point? I like this sharpener, and I think you will too.

Couldn't handle back to school.
I have only had this sharpener for four months. It was pretty good for a short while - it was quiet and fast, but it needed to be emptied fairly frequently. But my daughters needed their pencils sharpened for back to school - so I sharpened 72 pencils over several days getting their supplies ready. Not abusive use in my mind. And the thing died doing the task and cannot be revived. Before those pencils, I'd sharpened maybe 30 pencils in this. 100ish pencils sharpened over the lifetime of the product seems small for the price and the quality it purports to have. I'd try a different sharpener unless you rarely need a sharp pencil.

Works Fine for This Old Geezer
I am a single user with this pencil sharpener in my home, so it gets light use. I am completely satisfied with it. It doesn't sharpen most pencils off-center like other sharpeners. It's fast and the shavings container is plenty big enough for me. It is called an executive pencil sharpener and may not really be designed for heavy classroom use to which other reviewers have subjected it. Think about it. Contact the manufacturer if unsure about your application. Maybe another model would be better suited to heavy continuous usage. One suggestion is that old-fashioned wall-mounted manual pencil sharpeners would work great in classrooms just like they did in mine. Why do they have to be electric?

Sturdy, sharpens pencils fast, holds up well against high schoolers
This is a sturdy product. Most pencil sharpeners are flimsy and break within the year. The students I teach tend to abuse the pencil sharpeners I have, not understanding the fragility of products like this. This product can take a beating. Ramming pencils into the sharpener, sticking items that should not be in there, etc. This product holds up. Teachers, you've found your new sharpener.

Broken already?
I'm very sorry but i had just recieved this pacckage, un loaded it, plugged it in, sharpened about 10 pencils and BAM. It's broken! not even a full 5 minutes it looked sturdy i thought of emptying the shavings and i did, still wouldn't work, I plugged it into different outlets, and tried other pencils but nothing worked. Maybe i just got a bad sharpener, who knows? but so far i wouldnt recommend this, although it was quiet and sharpened the few pencils i started with pretty fast and well very smooth and un chipped like some pencil sharpeners do. Good luck to anyone who bought this. I hope you have better luck than i do.

Shh! Be Vewy, Vewy Quiet! I'm Sharpening Pencils!
I'm very pleased with this pencil sharpener. It may not be the quietest, but it is by far the quietest I've ever used. The motor is extremely quiet. What I hear is my pencils getting shaved down to a nice point. It's stable, not heavy, and gets the job done pretty quickly. It's easy to empty, too. Occasionally I've had a point go wonky, but I've found if I hold the pencil truly vertically, with a firm grip, I get a good, sharp, clean point. You don't have to press hard to sharpen pencils with it, either. In fact, don't jam the pencils into it. Just stick them in, straight down, and hold till you feel the grinding wheels seem to pull away. I'm really glad I bought this.

Pencil sharpener
This is a very stylish pencil sharpener. It is quiet and it makes good points. On the negative side, the motor is not real strong so you should not force a pencil into the sharpener. Also, the largest pencil it will handle is a regular sized pencil. All in all, I would buy this item again. Follow up 6 months later: The motor died. I was really disappointed. Part of the problem is that my family doesn't seem to understand that you shouldn't sharpen ALL the dull pencils in the house in one sitting. I think that if usage was limited to 3 or 4 pencils at a time and then letting it cool for half an hour or so, it would still be working, but I don't know. What I do know is it no longer works...

Le taille crayon a été livré avec la réserve de copeaux cassée, cela peut arriver... mais en plus il est livré avec une prise US, donc impossible de le brancher !!! A fuir !

I was returned my money for the item and postage for the return, but had to look elsewhere for a new sharpener.
