Burning Wheel Gold Revised Edition

Visionary RPG, favors Art over Balance
Burning Wheel is a very solid piece, with strong vision and excellent product quality. However, it has to be appreciated for the art of its design, and not necessarily for the practicality of it. The game offers players a wide variety of paths, some of which are far better mechanically, and makes little effort to create a balanced system. This is an advantage for players and GMs who have diverse desires for the output of the game, but you need to be aware of it, especially if you're coming at Burning Wheel from a very traditional RPG background. For the experienced GM, Burning Wheel provides a rich canvas for creating shared stories in a way that's significantly different from other RPGs. It does require a fair amount of book-keeping by the player -- more than I would have expected from a game that on its surface seems so much about storytelling. But for this investment, the player gets a few different ways to develop their character, beyond traditional XP-style expenditures.Burning Wheel is also a fairly deadly system, not conducive to characters who want to resort to fighting as a first option. Characters can get hurt (badly) and take significant times to recover (months or even years) if they survive. This is a game that rewards players for measuring risk carefully, and knowing what's worth fighting for.If you've played a lot of games and are looking for something different or offbeat, Burning Wheel is an excellent bet. It has some unique design ideas, and is worth reading even if you never get to play it. It's a beautiful book, and a real bargain at only $25.

As hard or easy as you can make it
I like it. It has a basic rules system and rules for what I consider mini games within the game. Wanna do easy combat? Role the dice and you win or lose. Wanna drag it out all day? Yup, you can do that too and everything in between. People make it out to be more complicated than it is. What the game actually is is more like “rules flexible”. With this system you don’t even have to fight, you can do a whole campaign on intrigue, and mercantile exchange like brewing beer and marketing it in the surrounding area! Lol

Burning potential
This game revolves around conflict resolution and is player driven. Now I know your thinking, but all roleplaying games are player driven. Yes, that is true but in this system the storyteller/game master is effectively a referee and the players control the narrative, think of this game system as a way for a group of storytellers to all run a game revolving around their character while simultaneously creating content for the other players in the game to use and be a part of. If you’re a novice to Table top then this isn’t the system for you, if you’re used to playing DND and have never had the urge to run your own game then this isn’t the system for you. If you are a seasoned roleplayer who revels in bouncing ideas back and forth while getting in-depth with the world then this is the game for you.

My favorite system
What a great system. It is a level free and class free system. You gain skills as you use them. This is an amazing game and tlvery great for tolkienesque settings

Great Game.
Burning Wheel is a great game with a low entry barrier but a high skill ceiling. It's in depth and easy to understand at the same time, well worth the money.

The content is great, but the book quality doesn't hold-up
I've had this book for six days, and it's already coming apart at the binding. It has only been lightly read in those few days, and there's no other damage appearing elsewhere. I'm hoping it doesn't fall apart before I start my campaign this Sunday.Outside of the book quality, the system itself is very intriguing and sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

the best thought-out and most complete roleplaying experience I have had
i have played D&D (since 1978), Runequest in all of its variations, AMBER diceless roleplaying, and numerous other roleplaying games. Burning Wheel is, without doubt, the best thought-out and most complete roleplaying experience I have had. I accept that the game is dense, and takes some wit to comprehend, but is pretty straightforward if you follow the advice in the book; start with the core mechanics, and only once you feel comfortable with those would you include the technically more challenging elements of Fight!, Range and Cover and Duel of Wits. The Duel of Wits - a mechanic that allows one to play a battle of ideas with the same kind of thrill I would have expected in combat when playing D&D or Runequest - means that finally we have roleplaying game where combat is no longer the main source of excitement and thrill. If you enjoy roleplaying games, I would contend that your library is incomplete without a copy of Burning Wheel!

One of the all time great TTRPGs
The Burning Wheel is the game I would recommend people play if they told me they wanted to either play Lord of the Rings as an RPG, or the political side of A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones). It's strange that an RPG could so perfectly hit both Tolkeinesque high fantasy action and Fantasy Political Intrigue with the same system, but from experience playing a little of it and watching a whole lot of it be played on actual play twitch streams, I can say that if you and your group are willing to take the time to learn it's rule set, it's a game changer. Once you've engaged in your first Duel of Wits, you'll never want to roll a single "persuasion check" to win a meaningful argument in an RPG ever again.

Fight for your Beliefs!
A masterpiece of a RPG system. Contains a complex set of rules but no unnecessary ones. Creates a character-driven game mainly for late medieval fantasy adventures but can be adapted to different settings.Does not contain the usual worldbuilding of a geography, history and culture. The atmosphere, setting and focus is told instead by the lifepaths the characters can take, the traits they can have and the mechanics themselves. You dont have to force your character concepts to fit the world, you build the world around the characters with your GM and fellow players. The players take a bigger role than usual in world building, before the game starts and using the mechanics in the game itself (circles, wises etc.).The base game contains detailed Mannish, Dwarven, Elven and Orc stocks available as player characters and important NPCs, Magic and Faith as supernatural abilities and many more.If you wish to see the game in play i urge you to watch "Roll20 Presents: The Burning Wheel" series. All in all - highly recommend.

There is a lot of good ideas and concepts in this book but many things ...
There is a lot of good ideas and concepts in this book but many things are overly complicated. The explanation are also often time not clear and the organisation of the book is less than logical. The book in itself is gorgeous but the cover fade really quickly. Too bad, it is so good looking. If you are really into rpg, it is definitely worth a read but if you are more a casual gamer, this might be a but much to go through.

OUI!! Surtout a ce prix (€20.00 neuf!!)
