5 stars for i love it (for what is is and what it cost)!
My background is i'm in my 60's and i have loved music from the 50's all the way up to Bruno mars! I dont always get the lyrics but i just love the song, instruments, singers, etc. I have a home theatre set up in the family room on a 5.1 system. It blasts and i drive the wife crazy when i crank it up. Love the hi's, mids, bass, cant get enuff of it. I'm in our home computer room which is about a 10' by 12' foot room. I had just bought a 40" samsung smart tv but for all that beautiful picture including pandora music, the speakers are crap! I didnt want to do the whole 5+speakers, audio/visual receiver so i started looking at these soundbars. So after going over the reviews and not wanting to spend a fortune for a small room, i decided to try the Phillips soundbar! I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED! Ok, this was easy to hook up but you had to buy the special digital optical cable (here on amazon) to complete the connection the way i wanted it done. No sweat and I am now enjoying my Pandora music on surround sound mode. If i compare this to the sound coming out of my home theatre system, it is a lil disappointing but if i compare this to my samsung tv speakers or even a decent sized ghetto blaster, i am feeling good making this purchase. It took me a bout 2 weeks to really appreciate the surround sound mode but thats what i keep the soundbar in. I can crank this up to where it gets too loud with no distortion and i can take in some noise (gun range nut here). I mean no mind blowing highs or bass but some very decent sound for the price. If i take into consideration this was for a 40"tv in a small computer room, my limited budget and my fondness for music.......right now, im sitting here listening to my 60s-70s-80s Pandora station on my TV & enjoying the moment and the musical instrument sounds. on the downside, the remote that comes with the soundbar is small but it does what its supposed to.......Frank sinatra is singing Fly Me to the Moon! Nuff said!!

Decent Value for the Price
Philips CSS2123B/F7 SoundBar Home Cinema Speakers This sound bar was a bit disappointing. I was looking for a convenient method of improving the sound on my Toshiba 40" which has lousy sound quality. It is very inexpensive ($106.00 including shipping at Amazon) so I wasn't anticipating a $1000.00 Yamaha experience. Most of the inexpensive sound bars I could find did not have an optical connection. I figured if I was going to buy an inexpensive audio source the least I could do was connect it with it's best possible connection. Of course the sound bar came with no cables to connect it. That isn't really too surprising. I happened to have a wealth of old RCA connectors and hooked it up via the RCA sound port. Sound was ok. I ordered a SPDIF cable from Amazon and hooked it up via the optical connection. Sound quality was better. I have not figured out how to have the sound bar respond to the TV remote. Phillips tells you to hook up the sound bar and mute your TV sound but this means you now have one more &%(*)(#* remote. It is a very little remote but still one more piece of crap on the coffee table. Bass is not particularly impressive. The sub-woofer works but it isn't what you would call booming. The unit works just fine, particularly for the price. Considering how inexpensive cables are, I would think it would behoove Phillips to toss a couple in the box. Add $2.00 to the SRP and you would be covered. I also think it would be nice to be able to run the sound bar from one of my existing remotes. So far I haven't figured that out. In closing, you get what you pay for. This is an inexpensive sound bar and expecting bells and whistles is unrealistic. It does have decent sound for the money.

Philips is way ahead of the pack!!
I was on the hunt for a compact yet great sounding system for my hdtv. I didn't want the traditional 5.1/7.1 HT in box as they take up space and cramp my room with wires & nails! I considered so many sound bars from yamaha to bose, pioneer, jvc, sony,lg, samsung etc, they were all too pricey and only fit for 42" TVs. My search ended with the Philips website and came across this little thing... Nothing prepared me for what I was about to listen! I was simply blown away by the sound coming from such a small unit. I'm by no means an audiophile, but I guess I can differentiate between different nuances. Here are a couple of key points as to why you can give this a try: Design: Remote: The remote is small, cute designed for practicality. There is a power button, volume button, bass & treble which allow you to custom low range, mid range & high range to your taste. In the front you have the aux, optical & coaxial to be selected depending on which source you want. Then there is the `surround' button, iLink for ipod/ipad, aux and mute. The only downside is that there R chances of losing it due its small size.(to counter this I got universal remote! Main unit: Just 28" wide, this is the smallest sound bar I've seen. Low-rise profile and fits perfectly under my TV, there r also wall mounting options if u like. All connectivity is found in main unit (unlike some brands which keep them on the subwoofer) really convenient here Now I know what they mean by 'sense and simplicity':) As the sub if placed near the TV or receiver can cause interference. Subwoofer: Nice and compact, with 6' drivers. Connectivity: Have the following connections...digital coaxial in, Digital optical in, Subwoofer out, AUX in iPod/iPhone: via 3.5mm Audio In Side connections: Audio In (3.5mm) One highlight here is that I've checked other sound bars and most of them did not have coaxial in, i've hooked up my DVD player with coaxial output and the sound is just as good as optical out! Philips know what they are doing & stand apart from the crowd. Performance: Now for the most important part, this unit has a beautiful blend of highs, mids & lows I'm hearing nuance is most songs that I've never heard before! For example the song "Here we go again" by James Blunt (the lows are heard just as the original source!) When I listen to heavy metal/rock/techno i turn on double bass, and also increase the lows & mids as they are user-selectable, amazing punch! Verdict: Philips has always been known as a no-nonsense brand with quality that stands above the rest. If you're looking for a budget sound bar with quality sound, then go for it.

No muy fácil de conectar varios periféricos. Pero una vez conseguido, la calidad de sonido es muy buena. Muchos saludos

A very useful soundbar that connects with my old shelf radio/disc player. It provides much deeper response than the radio unit and enables me to play MP3 stuff as well. The remote is a little small and easy to lose and its buttons have to be pressed in a certain sequence, but it does work! I don't use the Philips for home cinema but it does buck up the music in my tiny working office!. Cost was very reasonable for the end result.
