Good coffee!
Second time buying this variety, prefer medium to dark roast. When made with pour over this coffee does not disappoint. Good flavor, low to average acidity, rarely bitter. Learned that bitterness is related to how close the water is to boiling. Give it a minute to cool, then pour and I get a smooth cup of coffee. Strength is related to how much coffee you use of course. My habit is 6 heaping scoops to 48 oz of water. From that we get roughly 4ea 12 oz cups. Check out the golden ratio for coffee and work from there.

Get Behind the Mule
I rarely write reviews, and I usually only write them when I'm disappointed with a product. Not today: this review could not be more positive. I drink my coffee black, and I like it strong. Sumatra is one of my two favorite types of coffee, the other being Cafe Bustelo (okay, technically an espresso) for pressing with an Aeropress. I've been experimenting lately with percolated coffee and was warned off of dark roasts as they tend to perk up too bitter. I've tried 100% Columbian, Pike Place, and a few other non-starters, and was ready to give my new percolator away. I just could not seem to brew up a good, strong, full-flavored pot of coffee with the kick that I need first thing in the morning to get my old bones going. Enter Fresh Roasted Coffee LLC's Sumatra Mandheling Medium Roast-who knew? I mistakenly thought Sumatra was only offered as a dark roast-so glad I was wrong in this assumption. I just perked up my first pot, and these magic beans gave me a pot of bold, full-flavored, dark brew with a kick like a pissed off mule (in a good way)! In addition to the bold flavor, there is a nice, bittersweet finish on the back end of each sip (think dark chocolate). If you like it bold and flavorful, whether you're an old hand or new convert like me to perking coffee, this is the stuff! If you've become frustrated with the other beans available out there for perking, give these a try; I think your expectations will be exceeded if you like strong coffee that tastes great. As other reviewers have advised, make sure to order your beans directly from Fresh Roasted Coffee LLC to get the freshest, real deal beans. Well done, FRC LLC: you've gained me as a lifelong customer right out of the gate!

Fresh Roasted Coffee are top class
FRC made a slight mistake and sent me Sumatra Dark Roast instead of Medium Roast. Upon being asked to write a review I privately messaged them to alert them to the mishap. Needless to say I will publicly applaud them for correcting the order and sending me the Sumatra Medium Roast. Both coffees are absolutely superb with amazing aromas and intense flavours. Thus far I've brewed some in my moka pot and pour over coffee, next I'm going to try them out in a French press. Finding it difficult to choose a favourite. Thank you so much

We love Sumatra Mandheling. Out combined family taste says - it's genuine and well roasted.
After searching for several years most top brands available on USA market, my wife and me decided on Sumatra Mandheling. Like many other things where taste is involved, opinions might differ which one takes first place, but no doubt that Mandheling from Sumatra is one of the best brands available. After coffee roast shop we were using for years went out of business on line, several months ago we turned to Amazon and found this shop. Like most gourmet coffee shops they were offering Sumatra Mandheling too. It took a while before we were about to finish the first 5 pound bag we had from them. We found their product delicious and identical to delicious coffee we were drinking for years. This second five pounder tastes identical and as long as they will be on the market we will remain their customers.

Not a bad cup of coffee
Medium roast, but tastes a bit light in it's flavouring - definitely not bold flavour. Not a bad cup of coffee, but if you want what Sumatra should taste closer to you have to just about double up. It could be for a number of reasons, depends on when they got the beans and where from. I have had this kind of experience from a number of companies when buying whole beans. Was freshly roasted when I got it, so I was happy with that. Will try something stronger or different next time. Not holding anything against the company...first round I never expect to be outstanding. Sometimes you have to try a few rounds to see what works for you. Price wise was better than most.

Nicely done
Again another high quality product from this company. Bold flavor, smooth, and finishes well. I am typically a more dark roast kind of guy, but wanted to venture out a bit and decided to give the Sumatra M. a try, but I am glad I did. Grind with burr grinder, and brew with a quality machine (brew slow and with temps just below boiling for best extraction of flavor), or a well broken in moka maker (usually takes about 10 minutes to brew a small shot of this nectar.) Many people will give undeserving lower marks to the coffee because they do not have or use proper equipment to process the roasted beans into the finished product. Don't be that person! Spend a little extra on quality equipment if you truly would like to experience excellent coffee. If you do this you will see exactly what I am talking about. It is not just about the bean or the roast.

Bad aftertaste
At first I thought I had stumbled upon a great coffee at a reasonable price as the first cup had a great, mellow taste. However, this coffee leaves a lingering bitter aftertaste. I'm somewhat of a coffee snob and prefer Klatch or PT's which are very expensive so I'm constantly searching for an alternative with good taste but this coffee was not what I had hoped for. Again, the initial tasted was good but I just can't get past the aftertaste. I still have over 1 lb left and can't finish it, my quick fix was Starbucks Verona as I have a Starbucks close by. I'll probably just suck it and buy Klatch or PT's going forward.
