Very detailed
Very detailed book. Would say would be best for junior high and up as it was too advanced for my kids. I enjoyed it

Great as a history book of sorts
I have skimmed this book so far. It’s fantastic as a detailed description and history of all the various nations. While there are crafts/activities as well, they seemed geared a bit more to older kids than I expected. I think I will hold on to the book for a year or two and then share with my kids in digestible chunks. (There’s a ton of text - well done, but just a lot to get through.)

We are using this as part of our spine for Blossom and Roots River of Voices homeschool curriculum. My 10 year old daughter is enjoying it.

Liberal ….
I thought this would be a great book but after reading the first few pages …. Already talking about stereotypes, and racism .. the first chapter is titled , “who are native people ?” They didn’t talk about what you would expect at all when it comes to learning who they were . But you were told how to act at a festival and mascots are racist ! Kids can’t play pretend at being Indians because it’s making Indian people a toy . I’m going to return .

Missing pages, otherwise good
The book is good overall and goes with our homeschooling curriculum. We like the respectful treatment of Native Americans. However pages 51-66 are Missing from this book. It has great activities for my 4 and 8 year old that we’ve enjoyed. But The text is a little too advanced for them and there aren’t enough illustrations. They lose interest quickly. I had to break it into really tiny chunks and even then it’s difficult to keep my 8 year old engaged in the text. But they do love the activities.

I checked it out from the library.
I got this book from the library to see if it would help with a homeschool unit on Native American history. The crafts look enjoyabe. Even though this is a "native american" history book, I would not use this exclusively for the lessons. It does break down the tribes by region, but there is not much in the way of illustrations to go with the stories. It is also interesting to note that in the map, WV is completely left out of the country. It does not show up in the Norteast, Southeast, or Midwest region. It is as if there is a hole in the country where WV was. I will use this for some crafts and maybe a few stories to supplement other resources, but it isn't something to be used on its own to teach. I am glad that I got it from the library and that I didn't buy this one.
