Cmple - 9 PIN/ 4PIN BILINGUAL FireWire 800 - FireWire 400 Cable - 3FT, Black

First of all, the wire works great. I am using it to connect an older Sony Handycam to my iMac to transfer Digital 8 videos to iMovie. I only gave it four stars because the 9-pin connection into the iMac is a bit loose. I transferred an hour of video yesterday with no glitches, so I guess the connection is okay, but it's not as snug as other Firewire cables I have.

This bilingual cable did the job of connecting an ancient Sony DCR-TRV10 camcorder with a 4-pin FireWire 400 port to a mid-2012 MacBook Pro laptop with a 9-pin FireWire 800 port, (unlike another similar cable that I purchased that was presumably NOT bilingual), thereby allowing me to rescue about 19 hours of footage from old MiniDV cassettes.

I hate to give a product only one star when I was clearly shopping for a good value, but this cable simply just did not work. I connected my DV video camera using the 4-pin connector to my Mini-Mac using the 9-pin connector. I could control the camera from the Mac, but I never could get it to transfer data. I suspect it was the sloppy 9-pin connection or loose wires. I’m grateful to Amazon for the ease of returning the cable. I promptly ordered the Apple recommended cable from Belkin and it worked immediately without issue. With sensitive, high-speed, firewire data transfers, it appears cable and connector quality makes a difference.

Works, helps me transfer old DV taps.

I used it once and the device wouldnt connect, i ordered a cable from another vendor and the device worked

Did not work to connect my Sony DCR-TRV11 to late 2009 iMac. Had to buy a Firewire400 to 400 (9 pin) to connect to my DVD recorder.

After hours of troubleshooting cameras, cables and adapters I discovered that this cable was defective and did not work. Do not buy this cable.

This patch cord is as advertised and as good as the original product.
