Home Again, Home Again
Jackson Navarre III, better known as Tres, has returned to San Antonio after an absence of ten years. His first day back he finds the former occupant of his apartment still in residence. After suggesting that the man vacate the premises he’s met with decided opposition.Since the landlord seems unable or unwilling to act Tres is forced to evict the man himself and not gently.Almost as soon as he gets his belongings and cat inside the phone rings. It’s his mamma asking when he’s coming over. He tells her maybe this evening since he needs the old orange VW that he used to drive to get around town.Next he calls his current girlfriend in San Francisco and gets only voicemail telling him to call back during normal business hours. So he grabs supplies and starts to clean away the dirt and grime left by the previous occupant.A little before sunset there’s a knock on the door. He looks out a window and sees two uniformed cops standing outside. Then he sees Detective Rivas as he sticks his face in the door. Rivas has had a vendetta against the Navarre family since Tres’ father Jack expressed his opinion about the disappointing results of a joint investigation. The detective advises him to go back to California and then leaves.Tres’ father was murdered ten years ago, and now Tres is questioning the lack of results from the police and FBI investigations. Read Big Red Tequila and follow Tres’ journey to the truth!❤️✝️✡️❤️

P.I. Tres Navarre introduced to readers
This is author Rick Riordan's first novel. Riordan is a native of San Antonio and this is a Texas tale involving aspiring P.I. Tres Navarre, who returns home to San Antonio after 10 years in San Francisco.Navarre left town after his father, a sheriff, was murdered. When Navarre returns, he hooks up with his old high school sweetheart Lillian, and wants to investigate the death of his father. Lillian soon disappears and Navarre starts digging into her disappearance, while also trying to make sense of his father's murder.Riordan has created some interesting characters in this debut novel. Navarre has a Ph.D. in medieval literature, practices Tai Chi, knows his way around Texas and has an enchilada-eating cat, Robert Johnson. Navarre's brother, Garrett, is a die-hard hippie, marijuana smoker, a Jimmy Buffett fan who is confided to a wheelchair. He lost both legs years ago trying to hop a train. Riordan also incorporates an up-close look at San Antonio along with the people who live there.I get the feeling Riordan was trying too hard in his first novel, which did win multiple awards. There are too many characters, too much happening and the pace lags in places. I think the novel would have been better if it was shortened by 50 or so pages. The story and the characters, however, are interesting. According to some critics, Riordan's Tres Navarre series improves after his debut novel. This book and the rest of the Tres Navarre series are worthy of a reader's time.

Meet you at Mi Tierra
Is anybody going to San Antone? I know I am after reading this book. I am so homesick for my hometown I can’t wait to gas up the car and hit I-10 West. It’s not often I read something so true to the geography of S.A. so this was a real treat for me in that regard. Otherwise this book was work. Work to keep up with the multitude of characters and subplots and work to keep track of everyone’s history and relevance. I almost felt like I had to keep notes on everyone and found myself going back and rereading chapters to figure who was who. I really did not appreciate that, but I did appreciate and enjoy the spot on descriptions of the law enforcement characters. I remember well the cowboy wannabe cops and highway patrolmen of S.A. and Bexar County and the Mexican mafia that ran the town and the construction projects of my youth, and why we left S.A. in the first place.I will read the next book in this series to be fair, and hopefully it will be a little easier to keep up with everyone now that I know to pay attention to every single detail. I did enjoy this book, but I don’t know if I would recommend to anyone other than a former San Antonian so we could play “Hey do you remember?”.

Questionable
First - I thought I liked this genre but based on the last couple I've read I don't think I actually do. So keep that in mind if you use the following review.I was excited to read some more novels by this author since I liked the Olympian series so much (read it with my nephew). It's a puzzle book but with a little too much character development for it to flow the way say, an Agatha Christie book would. The problem I had was that there was too much information but no reason to particularly care about the characters... it reads as though the author had this great character in his head but started to write the books after the character fully developed - so he had to catch the audience up to where he was.So, that said, the story was decent, the puzzle was good, the language and grammar and writing were good. I didn't come away with the "gosh I'm glad I read that" feeling but I've already bought all four print books (planning to read the remainder on my Kindle) so maybe as the series develops I'll like it better. So if you like the gum shoe private eye stuff you'll probably like this but if you're looking for more of a puzzle book it will probably frustrate you.

Excellent
This engaging-from-start-to-finish 1st book in an adult series by Mr. Riodan was recommended to me by a co-worker. A helpful review discussed the number of characters. All are key to the story. I took notes on each which helped as the story progressed to recall details about who is who without having to flip back and forth. This book is filled with vivid imagery, culture, history, multiple family dynamics, friendship, love, greed, respect, betrayal, mystery, humor, an interesting pet with a meaningful name, and more. 5 stars! I'm continuing the series...

First adventure of Tres Navarre, good description of the life in the not-advertised part of San Antonio, I don't know how reliable though. The plot is enjoyable, with some good twists and some overrated clichés. All in, recommended!

Good characters and entertaining read but a little slow in places.
Really enjoyed this. Good characters and read. Started a little slow but improved. Slightly complicated plot but all came together well at the end.

OK.
As I have enjoyed reading Rick Riodan's Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus and Kane Chronicals I thought I'd give this a try. It's ok. A very easy read but not much to it or the characters.
