I'm glad with the book itself
I'm glad with the book itself. But with the delivering... I just found the package laying down on my aparment's stairs, at the hands of anyone who could just take it for themselves... b***h please, it's only a 3 floor building, the delivery person could just throw the book a bit more nearly my door at least!Whatever, I'm THANKFUL for the book, I'm starting with the "Mind" Skills (self-reliance, socialization, week planning, etc) rather than the "Hand" Skills (laundry, grocery shopping, trouser ironing, etc) since I'm as the elder son I'm kind of adquainted with the rudiments of that stuff, but I know that "helping with laundry" it's not "doing all the laundry" so I guess I'll take benefit for reading those chapters too eventually.Something really good I found also it's the recommended material. The videos and the lectures mentioned in the chapters along with the ease of finding them on the web. And about the book's format, I find it quite agreeable. If this book is not on your pack, you will notice it. But it's size would not be a problem while packing it. The aesthetics from the book cover and the chapters' front are really reminiscent to the AoM universe. Also the biggest good this particular book provides it's the LEGACY FACTOR. Things running like their running now in my life, I'll be heading out on my own between about 6 months and 1 year and half at most. Then I still may keep the book for the first 5 o 10 years, or even more, why not. But then there will be this little cousin, or nephew, or some friend's son, if now my own, reaching my current age and with the same worries about leaving the nest... and I will gladly pass on all the practical knowledge I still getting now with this fine guidebook you wrote.

Outstanding Book!
Brett and Kate have really outdone themselves with this book. Their previous book of essential manly skills was very useful, but this book provides so much more information. It weighs in at a beefy 400+ pages of knowledge. Given that I will be heading off into the world shortly, I was very happy to get this book. It covers a wide range of topics, from ironing shirts and jump starting a car to handling stress and creating a budget. I haven't had time to read the entire book yet, as I just got it today, but every part I have read is concise, helpful, and entertaining. I enjoyed the web posts this book was based from, but man does this seem to offer a lot more information. The book itself is high quality, with a nice, glossy cover and crisp, high quality paper. It feels as though it will last long enough to perhaps hand it down to your kids twenty years from now.The illustrations are well done, and I don't really feel as though I could complain about any part of the book. This will come with me to college, among a mere handful of other books from my collection. This book is a wonderful addition to the McKays' published works and I can only hope that more will follow.

Good baseline for young adults
I really liked this book. It gave me a lot of tips for organizing my life and learning new skills. Anyone who wants to become more independent and self-reliant should read this book.

Like getting advice from a wise relative
The Art of Manliness is actually a website that is full of great information. They also have a facebook page and will let you know when new articles are posted. I believe it was last year that 31 Basic Life Skills was posted. The great thing about it, for me as a parent, was that as they posted, it made me think of things that we might need to talk about before our son left for college next year. Now that time is months away, and being able to send this book with him is one more way to show my support to him as he transitions from boy to man. Many of these things may have been taught in the home, when a young man is really out on his own, the details that he may have forgotten may be important. This book is practical, but also gives a sense of the "arm around the shoulder" that may be comforting to a young man trying to make his way in the world for the first time. I cannot overstate how great I think these lessons are, and I wish the Art of Manliness website would publish more of their articles in book form.

Great Reference Book
Was trying to find a book about basic skills and things to know about life but no one tells you for my nephew who's turning 16 years old. This book is great at discussing how to do basic things and cope with different situations. It's organized in broad chapters and then details under topical areas - things like how to jump a car, how to make small talk, fix a running toilet, renting your first apartment, etc. It's easy to read and understand. The book bridges the gap between what has been taught by your parents, your older siblings, your friends and what they didn't have time for. Although it's geared for someone leaving for college or going out on their own, this book is a great reference and I am hoping he'll take it with him when he leaves for college.

Funny and oh-so-helpful!
The skills covered are some that I learned low these many years ago in a class called Home Economics! Ironing, laundry, grooming, grocery shopping are covered in chapters of varying length. There are also "new" skills covered, including networking and managing stress. The authors primarily aim toward young men graduating high school, but my daughter and I also enjoy their web site, so I feel boys and girls can both learn from this book. If your "giftee" is a good reader, and clear thinker, middle school is not too soon to learn most of these things.

Heading Out On Your Own and the Art of Manliness
I am a 21 year old College graduate who, by all means, was not ready to leave the house. I have recently moved to a new town, on my own and I have realized that there is an abundance of knowledge that I am lacking. Looking for tips about ties and wardrobe accumulation/maintanence, I found myself on a website designed to help men become beter at being men. [...] On this site I have found more than what I was looking for and each day I visit, I have been engrossed in an engaging read that challenges me to be the best man I can be. Once I heard about Heading Out On Your Own, I was excited to not only support Brett McKay, but also to have a guide handy for my everyday life. Great website and great read.

A bit disappointed by the print quality, but otherwise a great book.
I first got the other Art of Manliness books that came in the box set, and compared to those this book really looks and feels cheap. Other than that it’s great writing as usual.

Tolle Tipps...
