Look, Ma, no hooks
Lightweight and very comfortable. This is my second pair: I have them in red, too. Oddly, in Japanese sizing, these are 0.5 smaller than the red ones, although both were listed as suitable for an American size 9 women's. These are still large enough to wear either with tabi socks or sockless. I like the fit of lace-up tabi better than ones with hooks because my ankles sometimes swell a little when I walk all day.

Exactly What I Needed
These shoes are exactly what I was looking for to wear in the gym. I saw a video on Instagram of a competitive female power lifter in Japan wearing these shoes and I had to try it out. It's flat so when I squat and do other glute exercises, I can maintain proper form without my heels sticking up etc. The sole is thinner so I can feel the ground which helps when I do active flexibility. I can even point my toes with the shoes BUT there's still a grip to the sole so I can't slip and slide around like a dance shoe. One thing to note: I can see some of the glue along the sides where the sole meets the body of the shoe. For the price I paid though, this is expected. That being said, when I last purchased these shoes, they were around $50 or less and now they are $75. Would I repurchase with the higher price? Yes lol as it is still cheaper than most gym shoes in the market but something to keep in mind.

Incredible, but don't wear it in wet or icy conditions
Love these shoes. I chose tabi shoes because I have wide feet, and pretty much no shoes are wide enough--except ones designed with a split toe. This is a great and cheap solution for people with my situation. However, this is a death sentence if you are in wet or icy conditions. It literally has almost killed me a number of times because it is far worse than taking your shoes off (yes, even in ice), and going barefoot or with your socks. Also, concerning durability, don't expect it to last that long. At this price point, you can't complain, but the rubber is soft and holes will appear pretty quick, and the seams right at the rubber are likely to split with pivoting.Oh, on pivoting, watch out and make sure you don't leave a toe behind when you pivot on rocky surfaces. The rubber is soft enough that it's likely to spin your greater toe.All that said, great shoe, and it is the most comfortable full cover shoe I have.

They are comfortable and get a lot of attention. I'd get another set. They are perfect for driving vehicles with small pedal areas or even manual transmissions.. You feel everything, but they are amazing to wear everywhere

Great fit!
I received these yesterday and put them on immediately with my tabi socks. They fit perfectly and very comfortable! I read to go down half a size. I wear a perfect 7, so I bought a 6.5 I love these shoes!!!

Best shoes I've ever worn!
They give a good barefoot, feeling with enough support for construction work daily walking and training. They’re very grippy light on your feet and breathable. Just make sure you wear some nice thick socks when you first wearing them to get used to walking, barefoot style shoes.

very VERY comfortable.
I started a fixation with split toe 30 yrs ago in Martial arts. Then tabi socks with flip flops and various oriental footage. These are very comfortable. A flat sole inside with an arch support section. The sole wraps upwards for about an inch all way around. The canvas has just enough give to make easy to put on without fully unlacing the top 2 holes. A bit pricy for the materials used, but for unique shoes.. worth the price. Very light in weight. Only thing I think needs some improvement is to reinforce the top holes. They get the most stress when lacing up, but nothing is used to prevent future stress tears.. i'm thinking seriously of adding steel eyelets to the top holes. I would buy again.
