Comfortable, easy to tote.
Arrived with one of the knob tops broken (UPS had their way with it) vendor replaced part immediately- no hassels. I use the chair for astronomy and it works great. The padded seat is very comfortable and the removable back rest assembly is nice cause I don't need it or the extra weight. The padded portion of back rest has a metal flap which limits the travel to the very top of the back support arm. That flap could easily be hacked or hammered which would allow it to travel the entire range of the support arm. I am 5'10" and the default position is comfortable, but as I said, I don't use it at all. I am very pleased with the excellent range of height adjustment with this chair. I think the chair is very stable considering I use it outdoors on grassy and otherwise rough turf. I've never felt I was going to "tip". I am also a musician and can attest it would be well suited for comfortably playing various instruments. For other astronomers, I noted this chair was lighter on the wallet, and the back, compared to a DJ chair.

Replaces a long time stool that has seen many gigs and better days.
I like the entire concept of the chair. The only thing I wish it had is an adjustable foot rest. Otherwise the design is great, seat is comfortable and set u is very stable.

OK, good construction, but not for long gigs.
I needed this to be able to put in and out of my sound booth quickly (sometimes I need to stand, sometimes I need to sit for longer pieces, or to edit). Solid construction, easy fold. The seat becomes uncomfortable after about 20 minutes. Leg-numbing after about 30. I'm returning it for a higher-end model. So, yes, if you're using it intermittently, it's collapsable and portable (easy load-in and load-out) and good for the price. but not for extended sitting.

It Rocks!
I am mostly a folk musician, practice at home, and do a few gigs around town. Standing up is fine for a song or two, but longer than that it is nice to have a comfortable place to sit. It is also great to have a comfortable chair to practice in/on.This "throne" really fits the bill.I am a mechanical moron and am usually intimidated by the message "needs some assembly." Not a problem; simple instructions and everything fit together easily, very little sweat on my part. Nicely adjustable for height, and the footrest is superb (barstools are a nice substitute, but they never seem to get the footrest part right for me). Easily portable too.Only one complaint. I wish the back were more adjustable. There is only one position, and I would have preferred to be abl to move it back some. Other than that, though, I am very satisfied.

Just what I was hoping for!
I like this seat a lot! There was setup instructions in the box and it was quite easy to put together. It was nice to be able to adjust the height and once I figured out the best height for me it will stay where it is. I actually started out with the seat a good bit higher since I'm tall but ended up taking it down quite a bit and find that best for me. It is nice to be able to stop playing when I'm ready to quit rather then when my back is screaming at me to stop. I also find it to be very sturdy. I highly recommend this throne - wish I had found it long ago!

Decent, well built throne but could be better designed
I use this in my home conservatory (well ok, a spare room where I have my guitars and keyboard). Overall I like the throne and think it was a good value. However, no assembly instruction were provided and it may not be obvious at first to some how it goes together, but there are only so many options and it isn't that hard to figure out. The parts are solid and well made with clean welds and have a nice finish - I think it's powder coated. As some reviewers point out, the seat itself is rather small in diameter at ~12", but even as a 6'2", 195# guy, I find it about the right size for guitar playing with one foot on the floor or the included footrest (read more on this later). While the vinyl cover on the seat and the backrest are simply stapled in place, it is done well and the overall look is not bad. However, the seat is made with some sort of foam I haven't experienced before. Its makes a slight crunching sounds when compressed and returns to it's normal state slowly. When you sit on it, it sounds and feels like a deflating ball - you can hear the air rushing out. When you first sit on it you think "oh, this isn't so bad", but within 10 seconds it deflates to be virtually completely flat with no cushion support and not much better than sitting on a towel on a wooden stool. I've never felt foam like this in a chair cushion and will probably take the time to replace it with a better foam in the future. The overall design of the throne is the real problem. A high school engineering class could design this better. As others have pointed out, they used a solid steel "L" bar that the seat is attached too and that slides into the lower assembly and is secured with two large handled, and easy to use, "thumb" screws. The problem is that first there is no reason to have used such a heavy and solid piece of steel and second, the way the seat is attached to that "L" beam, allows for only ~1" of fore and aft adjustment of the seat. Why would they bother to make the seat attachment involve multiple pieces and a retaining "thumb" screw only to provide 1" of adjustment? Then there's the backrest. The bar that the backrest is attached to is also connected to the overall throne with a bar that slips inside a tube and is then held in place with one of those large "thumb" screws. Sounds like an arrangement to allow fore and aft adjustment of the backrest? Nope. Just bars, tubes and adjuster thumb screws for no purpose other than to connect everything - there is no adjustment of the backrest for and aft position at all. Zero. And the only reason this is true is because apparently the guy that designed the backrest assembly and the guy who designed the seat attachment assembly didn't talk to each other and each placed their respective adjusting thumb screws in such a way as to make the other's assembly nonadjustable - the thumbscrews for one assembly blocks movement of the other assembly. Then, the backrest on the backrest assembly post is also attached with a large and excessively long thumb screw, but it's not adjustable! All you can do with the adjuster screw is remove the backrest.I presume the point of all the excessive and unnecessarily long thumb screws and bars-that-slide-into-tubes is to allow disassembly, but I suspect a lot more people would like to have seen those assemblies and adjuster screws used for... say, adjustments? Rather than just disassembly. You can't disassemble the lower bulky base of the throne so I see very little value in being able to remove the seat and backrest. However, the worst design "feature" is the non adjustable foot rest. With all of the slides and adjuster screws, why didn't they design it so that the foot rest could be raised or lowered as the seat is moved up or down. Either in sync or as separate assemblies. This would have been easy to accomplish and would have made the foot rest vastly more usable. As is, it's completely worthless for me if I want the seat at a moderate height and with my long legs. With the seat at its highest level, it's fine, but any other seat height and my knee is in my chin. Everyone will find a seat height that works for their legs and the welded-in-place footrest, but either you adjust the seat for the footrest or the footrest will likely be at the wrong height for you.I will be replacing the seat foam and re-engineering the throne to allow adjustability of the seat, backrest and footrest. But I have the tools to do this and a good idea on how to accomplish it. Most people will not have this ability and will have to live with the throne the way it's designed. It will likely work just fine as is and it is overall well made so for that reason I will give it a decent star rating on value and usability, but I'm subtracting 1 star for poor design, little adjustability and poor seat foam. Overall, I like and use the throne but not the footrest. I would recommend this to anyone who understands the limitation and oddities.

What I have been looking for.
I have played on regular stools for a while now, and got tired of them. They got very hard and uncomfortable on my butt. I was looking for a cusioned chair or stool, and came across this On Stage DT8500 throne. I went to my local Music store, and they had one. I tried it out, with a guitar in my lap, and loved it. Its very comfortable. Its very easy to fold up after the gig, and put away when you are not using it. I will not do a gig(or practice) without it now. Great for guitar(which I use it for) drums, keyboards. Love it.

It’s more comfortable standing up!
When fixed together it is sturdy. It’s also really heavy. Not exactly portable. The worst bit is the comfort, which is non-existent. The backrest is fixed, as is the foot bar and the seat padding has little substance. My bottom was numb after just 2 songs of my set! It’s more comfortable standing up! And saves you £60 and from hauling this great big thing around. I returned it.
