The T-Bone Walker Collection

The Source of Electric Guitar Blues
~ If you really want to learn how to play electric guitar blues, you have to go to the source. Go to the man who gave birth to the electric guitar blues and the man who strongly influenced everyone who came after him - from B.B. King to Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Jimi Hendrix. If you really want to learn how to play electric guitar blues, study the music of T-Bone Walker. There is no better place to start than "The T-Bone Walker Collection: Guitar Recorded Version" from publisher Hal Leonard with transcriptions by Kenn Chipkin, Pete Sawchuk, and Josh Workman.~ This 96-page book starts with a brief two-page history and appreciation of T-Bone Walker, and a recommended discography. Since the music of T-Bone Walker is continuously being repackaged and reissued, the discography as published in this 1999 book may be a little out of date, but a search of Amazon will lead the interested reader to the original recordings. Fifteen of the twenty transcriptions are based on the original versions recorded for Capitol's Black and White label and are available on an invaluable 2-CD set Complete Capitol Black & White Recordings . All of the music is available on Mosaic's difficult to find, out-of-print collector's item The Complete Recordings of T-bone Walker 1940-1954 .~ The songs transcribed are: Bye Bye Baby * Don't Leave Me Baby * Evenin' * Go Back To The One You Love * Hard Pain Blues * I Got A Break Baby * I Know Your Wig Is Gone * It's A Low Down Dirty Deal * Low Down Dirty Shame Blues * Mean Old World * No Worry Blues * She Had To Let Me Down * She's My Old Time Used To Be * So Blue Blues * (They Call It) Stormy Monday (Stormy Monday Blues) * T-Bone Blues * T-Bone Boogie * T-Bone Jumps Again * The Time Seems So Long * Vida Lee~ Every single note and chord, every riff, every phrase played by T-Bone is transcribed in standard musical notation and in tab notation. These riffs and fills have been copied, adapted, and modified by countless guitar players in blues and rock. The chords are particularly interesting. Because T-Bone came to popularity at a time when jazz was king and because he got his start singing in Les Hite's jazz big band T-Bone's chords are much jazzier than you will find with most blues players. You will find more 9th chords than 7th chords. Also, because he was playing in a jazz band with brass and reed players you will find keys like F and E-flat more than typical guitar keys like G and A. Even if you are already playing electric blues guitar you will find this book informative and educational not only for the historical value but also because it will help you expand your chord arsenal and broaden your playing into keys that you might not otherwise encounter.~ Highly recommended book for anyone interested in not only playing the blues but also interested in understanding the basis upon which so much of our music has been built.

T-Bone Walker Tab Book
Good tab book for old country type blues guitar playing. Mainly for intermediate type guitar player however, could be used for learning for those in a more advanced beginner stage.

Well Done
Well done transcriptions. The font is a bit small for me since I am 175 years old.

Only 4 stars because
there is no CD. The transcriptions in score and tab seem accurate. But you will need to get the CDs. Which is no great loss because TBone Walker is such a cool guitarist. What the book doesn't teach you is how to play with the guitar behind your back or horizontal to your body, you will have to see some footage on UTube for that :-)If you want to play like TBone, buy this book and learn!
