Classics Box The ultimate collection for the ultimate fan. Experience these six essential films from Columbia Pictures like never before, now fully remastered and debuting on 4K Ultra HD. With hours of special features and an exclusive 80-page book, the Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection is truly the best way to watch these legendary films. Mr. Smith Goes to Hollywood James Stewart takes o Review: Excellent 4k transfers - I have only watched Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Strangelove so far but I have to say I am impressed. The quality of Lawrence of Arabia is spectacular, which is not surprising given that the original 65mm negative used for the transfer theoretically translates to 8k resolution. The same cannot be said for Dr. Strangelove--we know the original 35mm negative was destroyed so the transfer process must have been a lot more challenging. There is notable graininess in some scenes, particularly the outdoor battles at the military base but overall, this is by far the finest quality Dr Strangelove you can get at present. I also like the included booklet, it gives a lot nice information about each film and the restoration process involved in the 4k transfers. Sure, there are 2 filler films but the other 4 are more than worth the overall price. Very good collection, I wish we had more like this. Highly recommended. Review: Worth it! - You can complain about the choices of movies by Columbia (I won't) but the quality of the UHD's are superb; all films improve in the UHD format giving a picture-perfect cinematic experience. e.g. "Jerry Maguire" was a gem in the Blu-Ray format, and yet the 2160p/HDR UHD presentation greatly improves on it. The "LoA" 2012 Blu-ray still holds its own as one of the best on that format, but this SONY UHD is transformative in all the best ways. I've never seen "LoA" look this awesome. The 2 B&W films ("Mr. Smith..." and "Strangelove") are both enhanced exponentially in tonal clarity, accuracy, brightness, and detail. "Gandhi" is a visual gem and benefits the most from the UHD upgrade ... "League..." UHD video presentation blows away any previous Blu-Ray iteration...even the accompanying 4K remastered Blu-Ray blows away any previous "League..." Blu-Ray. The Dolby Atmos soundtracks are a treat on "LoA" | "Gandhi" | "League..." | "Jerry Maguire" ... "Mr. Smith" improves w/ a 2.0 mono configuration and "Strangelove" stays steady w/ a new DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack. The packaging is sound and sturdy and is designed to house the prize (quality) book detailing the films in the set and offer some fun clues for what might appear in future volumes ... solid first edition of Columbia (Sony) titles and worth a place in any collection.

The Unlikely Hero
This set is absolutely wonderful. Despite a disc defect that will be addressed, this collection presents a look at the little studio that could, and assembles some of its greatest examples of the unlikely hero. The packaging is awesome. I love the vista fold-out, the raised gold print and borders, the beautifully uniform sleeves for each movie, just everything about this set. I'm taking these in chronological order, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is truly captivating. It looks great for black and white. HDR really makes the senate full of black suits reading the paper at their desks contrast in detailed clarity. The spotlight feature in this collection, Lawrence of Arabia, with its Dolby Vision color grading, and its cinematic track, presented in Atmos, though I experienced 5.1 so far, is a spectacle to behold. I've never seen this era look so brilliant on films, almost as if it was new. The color looks so fresh; the deepest of reds, the most vibrant of blues, and colorful purples. It's a new film for me, and I absolutely loved it. It is a most beautiful film. A beautifully assembled book of details is included. I read the intro, and will save the individual film material for after my initial viewing. Includes details on the movies, and the restoration process. It's wonderful. I will probably update after having gone through all six films, but I am savoring these films one by one, as the majority I have passed up on television viewing, as I have for many films, in anticipation of a worthy format. Blu-ray opened the floodgates for many films I had never seen before, but 4K UltraHD with its variants of High Dynamic Range, leaves no excuse to hold off on any of the films that are put in its specifications. They're all beautiful, and compelling in their unique ways. I love my Colombia Classics 4K UltraHD Blu-ray Limited Edition Collection.

A Fabulous 4K Collection!
Sony has outdone themselves with this release. This 4K collection box set is virtually perfect. From the classy packaging, to the careful 4K restoration work on each terrific film included, there's nothing to criticize. And no, the 'Lawrence of Arabia' bonus disc situation isn't a big deal. Sony will happily send the corrected disc to buyers, upon request (at no charge) I got my corrected disc without a problem. Given Sony's outstanding work with this release, I will happily purchase all possible future volumes, in the 'Columbia Classics' 4K line. Well done, Sony!

Beautiful collection of 4K blu-rays (PSA: manufacturing defect on all LoA special features disc)
Bought it mainly for Lawrence of Arabia in beautiful real 4K scans from the original film negatives(not like the upscaled stuff if shot on an older digital camera). But I gave it only 4 stars because I found out after googling that the Lawrence of Arabia special features Blu-ray disc was missing some content as a manufacturing defect. I was told to contact "Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Customer Care team" to get the corrected version of that disc in the mail when they eventually produce it. Other than that, all the other movies were flawless, albeit a strange mix of movies. But nevertheless great movies. Came with digital codes for movies anywhere, all six on one piece of paper. Overall a great set to add to my 4K UHD collection.

Could not have done a better job on Lawrence
Lawrence of Arabia in 4k Vision/Atmos is worth the hundred bucks by itself. I've been waiting for this to come out for years. Lawrence is the reason I own a big TV. There is a 4k streaming version on Amazon, but it doesn't compare to the sharpness or the rich colors of hard media. The Dolby Vision is significantly more revealing than HDR10; details do not get lost in the shadows. Skin colors are more vibrant. Colors more saturated. The sound track has been reworked. There's some slamming LFE effects now, totally took me off guard. And they utilized the height channels frequently. I expected a perfunctory Atmos track, not this masterpiece. They gave this film the effort it deserves. Exceeded my expectations, which were pretty high. Also the construction of the box set is quite nice. Very high quality. Whoever made this loves movies. I haven't watched any of the other films yet. I'm not bothered by the mix mash. Lawrence was so good I don't care. I hope they make more of these sets.

gandhi was exceptional.
What a wonderful collection. 4k is enough resolution to see the film grain and makes me feel like I'm back in the theater during the first run. Gandhi made the entire collection worthwhile. I will say I'm a little puzzled regarding the inclusion of "A League of Their Own" and "Jerry Maguire" in the collection. Maybe it's a generational thing.

Fantastic box set for cinema fans
I find all of the reviews that say only one of these are worth while or this isn’t a good set to be some of the most baffling opinions I’ve ever faced. Every single one of these films are fantastic. You might not like them, but they are fantastic. The book that comes with is a wonderful added read. It takes an interesting approach to film theory and criticism. This is a set for anyone who loves Colombia Pictures and anyone who loves cinema.
