Great purchase!!
We bought a used cello that had lots of caked rosin on it. After buying this. We just applied the oil onto a piece of cotton cloth. And rubbed it gently onto the cello. This worked very well. It was shining and almost new again. We didn't use very much for the full size cello there is still a lot left. The smell is not pleasant if you were to just stick your nose in it but after putting it on the instrument, you could hardly smell it at all. After using this cello for a month, rosin doesn't get caked on like before. It is very easy to wipe it off after each time you practice. I was also worried that the bottle would come cracked or leaking and none of that happened, it was packed very well. Overall, pleased with this purchase

Worked well in getting rosin off the violin
Needed to get hold of a cleaning chemical that can remove rosin build-up on violin strings. This did the job perfectly. Used a microfiber cloth with a few drops of this oil and some elbow grease to get the strings squeaky clean again for a crisper sound.

Does the job
I like this strings cleaner. I use it to clean my violin as well as strings and it makes my strings sound great once all the rosin is off. It smells like a eucalyptus essential oil to me. However, the drop-applicator does not work.

A must-have for keeping your strings sounding bright
I routinely wipe off and rosin dust and buildup from my cello and strings with a soft microfiber towel after I'm finished playing. Despite this routine care, rosin would remain on the strings and prevent the bow from producing a nice, clear resonant sound. I was incredibly frustrated, and while cleaning the strings with isopropyl alcohol helped I don't think it was removing all of the buildup.Old Master string cleaner worked wonders for restoring the vibrancy of my strings! A single daub on the end of a towel, and clean all around each string being careful not to brush up against the varnished cello body. I use this any time I start having that slippy screechy sound. Just make sure to wipe the strings with a dry corner of the towel before resuming playing, as this cleaner takes a few minutes to completely dry.

Made by Gewa in Germany - this is really good stuff.
My violin's used, but in fine shape, considering it was a student's violin before I got. it. That student had done an admirable job of keeping it clean, but there was the typical buildup / orange peel / bumpiness of old rosin around the bridge feet, and under the bridge. Spit (yes, spit) wasn't making it go away, Hill's Varnish Cleaner didn't make it go away, but Gewa's Old Master String Cleaner (the blue one) did the job so much quicker than I expected, and did not harm the oil varnish finish my student violin has. It also predictably made quick work out of cleaning my strings. I clean them every night, of course -- but a once-a-week pass with this stuff will leave them devoid of any trace of rosin.

Rosin Remover Works
Does what it is supposed to do, Removes rosin from strings, bow, and violin body. Use sparingly.Be careful not to get it on the violin's wooden finish. It removes rosin from the strings like magic. I also use it to clean the rosin from the bow - not the bow hair, just the wooden parts.

Oh Dear, What Tradition is the Next to be Outlawed?
When I was nearing 18, the legal age for drinking in New York State at the time, I noticed that my violin teacher recommended alcohol spirits (the drinkable variety) for cleaning the rosin from my violin strings. It does work, by the way. When I was in Philadelhia attending Ceili dances where Eugene O'Donnell performed, I was told that the only spirit "approved" for this use was Jameson's Irish Whiskey. Many Irish fiddlers used it and would take a dram before playing at a dance (akin to the Riverdance, but authentic Irish folk dancing). I actually enjoyed this, and never had a hangover from Jameson's. The case was closed in my mind. Then drinking ages were raised to 21 universally in the U.S., and I could not recommend Jameson's to any college student I knew, or teenager at music festivals. The answer is a commercial string cleaner, which I can recommend now to any young fiddler. I've tried this product for that reason, and it works, is not expensive, so I recommend it.

There was a pretty solid build up under the strings by the bridge
I let rosin build up on my violin for over 20 years (Huge mistake. I was quite young and didn't clean it off regularly). There was a pretty solid build up under the strings by the bridge. I was able to get it all off with this product. It's amazing how well it works cause just elbow grease and a damp rag had done nothing for me. Great product and I would highly recommend it.

I really like this product
I used this product to clean the surface of my old violin. I really like this product, it was effective at removing rosin without harm to the violin. But before you use it, you should try little bit on small surface on your violin just in case.

Great product!
Works great when I cleaned my violin strings. The smell was okay. But I didn't try to take out rosin out of my bow yet, but I'm pretty sure it will turn out great. If you need a cleaner for your string/bow buy this product! :D
