Amazing purchase that will up your audio quality tenfold.
Initial thoughts: All I have to say is WOW. Six-foot cable, connects via USB-C, and it has an amazingly flexible braided cord. The cable is a bit fatter than most lavalier mics I’ve used in the past, but that can be expected because of the braided sheathe. It has a standard alligator clip to clip it to your shirt or jacket or whatever. This would be the only point of failure that I would be concerned about as it appears that the clip is molded around the mic itself and might not be able to be replaced should the plastic fail. Use: Hooks in well and fairly solid. I hooked it into the camera while it was strapped to the side view mirror and rolled the window up, slightly pinching the cord and it stayed connected. The audio quality is markedly improved and the wind noise reduction is well worth the price tag. It’s a microphone that drastically improves the audio quality in a great action camera. I sincerely recommend spending the money, especially if you want to put the camera in a windy environment and run audio to a non-windy place.

solid addition
I primarily use the AKASO action cam to record my rides. this was something I attached to remove some heavy wind noise. Still requires some DIY to completely cancel the wind, but way better than before. It picks up my voice perfectly.

Very good value but a few improvements would make it excellent
I was looking at the Hero series but thought they were too expensive for a device that I would not use that often (action photography & video). So I looked around and found that this company, AKASO, makes a whole series of these cameras. Reviews were quite good and you can even find YouTube reviews and comparisons. So I purchased the best model that had an external microphone and could do 4K video at 30fps. So far, I haven't used it that much given that it is winter and COVID is preventing travel, but some video that I did take looked good. From what I can see, the camera has a lot of capabilities and I can't wait to try them out. My only two gripes are these. (1) you can't get audio when you have the waterproof case on the camera. I knew this ahead of time because the reviews definitely said that you can't attach the external mike when the protective case is attached, but it would be nice if future cameras would get around this limitation. (2) While the camera comes with plenty of accessories, the documentation is very limited on how to attach your camera using these accessories. There are some cryptic graphics but I find them inadequate. This is also something that could be cured easily by expanding the documentation, even if only digitally at their website.

Good, maybe not great. Glad to have it since not expensive. worth a try
I've come to love my AKASO Brave 7 camera but the AKASO has real problems with both the internal and external wired and non wired microphones. When I first got the camera I had some really disappointing experiences with capturing audio and ended up having to dub in audio from other sources when editing. I though buying this wired mic would help solve it and got mixed results. I've spoken with AKASO reps directly at a trade show and no one has any idea why the platform will not let you use a lavalier mic like with a cell phone. I've seen videos about a proprietary wireless mic but have not been able to buy one, but I digress. What I ended up discovering about my camera is that the way AKASO designed the mounting frame bracket (the one for land use, not talking about the waterproof one) the plastic on the frame blocks the built in mic. I drilled out the housing to open up the port for the mic and now the sound is on par with my GOPRO camera which I have always thought had an outstanding ambient mic. I never use this external mic any more. I do a lot of outdoor video work, it may be more effective for indoor "podcast" type of stuff. when I did use it I did not notice any impact on battery life. The size is small enough that I continue to keep it in my kit in case I wish to use it so portability is not an issue. It's comforting to have with my camera accessories. It was not very expensive so I'm glad I have it and I would not hesitate to buy again even though it did not solve all of my problems as I had hoped.

Works great
This microphone works great. The only minor gripe is that you have to plug it directly into the side of the camera, which means that the waterproof case cannot be used with it. Audio is fantastic, but I'd like to be able to use an external mic when I'm riding in adverse weather conditions or am on my paddleboard and that isn't currently possible. It's not worth taking a star off for though, because this does exactly what it is intended for and it does it very well.

Very poor sound quality
I bought this for riding my motorcycle. Not for helmet use but mounted directly to the motorcycle. While I love my Brave 6 plus, I find the sound pickup of the external mic very disappointing. The frequency response is way off. Base and low midrange are muted while highs sound tinny. The wind noise from about 30 mph on completely saturates all other sound. The foam sock does nothing to reduce it. I bought a deadsock which helps a lot but really it’s the mic. If I worked for Akaso I’d find a better quality mic from a different vender. Pro's - cheap Con's - Two tin cans and a string work better

This seems a great value for a remote microphone.
This microphone worked well on my first use of it. I wish it was a bit smaller as there’s not much room inside my helmet for a microphone that said, I eventually found a spot where I could tuck it in partially under my helmet liner, but I have not had a chance to try it yet for audio quality, so we shall see. Overall pleased with it, and I am not a huge fan of the braided wire because it makes the wire less flexible and more difficult to coil up. That said, I’m hoping the braided aspect of the microphone wire in the long run, makes the wire more durable . Remains to be seen.

Great first camera
Still learning how to use it but it seems very user friendly and way better quality than I thought for the price

In my opinion, use this external mic or not the sound doesn't change or it doesn't make it better.

It works well. I use it on my motorcycle helmet and I am a little disappointed that the waterproof housing for the camera doesn't have an external jack so I can attach the mic to the camera. I can see why they don't. When you're underwater diving you wouldn't use an external mic lol. Meh, I'll drill a hole and use blu tack to seal it and keep the dust out.
