Japanese Bookbinding: Instructions From A Master Craftsman

Though I did review videos online, it is great to have a book instructing how to in a tried and true manner. The images are clear and instructions well stated. Love a good book!

There is no better book on this topic in English, in fact there is really no other book on this topic. Although it is over 30 years old it contains, clear and detailed instructions, useful historical information and helpful photos. After many years of studying Japanese and consequently having access to a large number of books in Japanese on this topic my regard for this book has not diminished. Furthermore unlike western style bookbinding which often requires specialised equipment many of these beautiful books can be made at home with the tools any artist, or craftsman, already possesses.

This book is the end all be all of Japanese bookbinding. I studied traditional bookbinding in Japan and in college. My professors use pages out of this book as handouts and refers to this book as the best reference. Beautifully written and translated and very straightforward.

Easily reading and instructions.

A very nice book with a bit of history, as well as detailed instructions for making several types of Chinese and Japanese books; including flutter books, accordion books, and a few stab binding designs. Different types of paper, glue, and modern as well as traditional tools are also discussed.

It looks like the book is bound in the Japanese style but it is instead bound like any other hardback book. It was a bit disappointing since I would have liked to compare the literal book to its contents, but other than that it's a good book.

pros...have you ever wanted to bind your own books, manuscripts or other printed materials? well this book will teach you how to do with with just some simple tools and items around your house. the book is titled japaense bookbinding, but this type of binding actually was developed in china. simple, clear and easy to follow instructions, and you too will be binding your own stuff. cons...i don't have many things to bind, but at least i know how to do it.

Libro da "professionisti"..! Quasi troppo impegnativo per chi, come me, si sta approcciando alla materia. Superato l'ostacolo della lingua inglese - i termini tecnici vanno imparati - il libro è molto ben fatto: materiali, tecniche, attrezzi, tutto viene elencato in modo esaustivo. L'unica pecca: le foto in b/n! Per quel che mi riguarda, da avere.

Excellent livre! Simple et complet, très pratique, avec de nombreux conseils et "tours de mains". Avec de nombreuses photos pour illustrer chaque étapes et reprenant la procédure de reliure sous différents angles. Un très bon livre d'initiation à la reliure Japonaise.

A little wait for it to come but its worth it a well written and concise book. A guide to keep to hand. Book itself is well produced and should last the course.
