Very nice
There was no option for 4.5 stars - which is how it rates with me. The surface is excellent - and 'seems' hard if it's on a hard smooth surface. Of course, the pad isn't really hard - it comes rolled up like a poster (in a cool tin box no less), but the SURFACE is hard and smooth. The backing is perfect to keep it from sliding around and no - I didn't catch any odd whiffs. If the edges were square, I would have gone 5. I literally wore an area of my desk shiny smooth over the years with several generations of mice, and prior to getting this, even the laser mice could not sense any movement on the polished wood (there was no grain left at all). The pad was so smooth feeling that I didn't think the mouse would see it very well, but I was wrong - my G9x tracks perfectly on it, and it's silky to the touch - not like laying your hand on a chalkboard. As stated, I just wish the edges were squared so it would be flush with the desk edge, but that is the only improvement I can imagine (and it is probably just me that thinks it WOULD be an improvement). It works great, is easy to clean, unobtrusive, stays put, lays flat, and priced right - OK maybe 4.8 stars would have been more fair.

Cheap, seems durable.
Unfortunately mine came with a lump in the very center, which is a defect I really don't want on a mousepad. That said, I only use one half of the pad anyway. The surface is nice and the pad is hard but not stiff. It's a very thin and floppy mouse pad. Otherwise it's just a standard oversized pad. No black rubber foam to degrade or soak up your coffee, this pad is backed with a thin, textured orange rubber, sort of like a basketball.

Not hard
I sent this back. I expected a hard pad since it said hard surface. But it was rolled up just like all other pads.

Impressed...
I have always been one to prefer the solid mouse pads, whether they are metal or plastic based. However, when I saw this mousepad my nephew and I thought that we would give them a try. The price was right...we both use high DPI mice, and between my video/audio editing with some gaming in there and his ALL gaming...we figured this would fit the bill. Once we got it you cant help but appreciate the packaging from the manufacturer. It is a metal case with foam inside and the pad is rolled and contained in a plastic cover. The yellow notification sticker on the inside suggesting you keep the foam and plastic sheath of the pad for future use is unnavoidable. The pad is huge at seventeen inches and pretty wide depth wise for a mouse pad, but I assume this is just for more play area surface. The high DPI mice love this surface and I have come to be quite the fan of this pad. It is quality made with a rubber footing (that is bright orange), and as stated before...the surface is perfect for high DPI mice. Can't go wrong on price or quality with this mouse pad.

Optical Mouse Users Beware
Pros: This very large mouse pad would have been great for my new desk, as I'm a big gamer. I didn't mind that it was flexible, except that, after being rolled up, I had to "flatten" it before I could use it. The foam lined tin it came in was very nice also.Cons: I would have to "flatten" it every time I were to take it someplace, as it is a "portable" mouse pad and intended to travel rolled up in the tin case. But, the biggest issue I had with this mouse pad is it caused my optical mouse (I use the Razor Naga Epic) to hesitate and sometimes didn't register movement at all. I may as well have been trying to use my mouse on a glass surface.

F Precision Pad
got this mouse pad in the mail yesterday along with my Razer Goliathus Alpha Mouse Mat - Precision Control Surface and Gigabyte Dual Lens Gaming Mouse with 1600 DPI High-Definition Optical Tracking (GM-M6800) and the mouse pad works really good with my gigabyte mouse glides real nice you want to set something heavy on it first for awhile so it flattens the pad. overall good good mouse pad xD

Amazing Mouse Pad
I am very happy with this mouse pad. It is smooth on the surface and rubber on the bottom. This mouse pad never slides when in heavy use. The case is also very cool. If you travel and prefer to take your mouse pad with you. You have an option of using the plastic sleeve or rolling the mouse pad into the plastic sleeve and then into the travel box. Overall, this is a great product, and it is even better for the price that it is being sold for.

Don't waste your time or money
This mouse pad was great when it was new but it only took 30 days for it to wear out. You can see and feel worn down grooves which cause the glide to be sticky in those commonly used spots. I tried cleaning it to make sure it wasn't teflon from my mouse feet building up on the pad but it was the pad that had worn away.Wish I had my $10 back.
