Must Have
It is a must have if you want to prevent scratches; I'm using without the anti-static feature, at-least my table top is protected, moreover, it prevents damage to repair equipment like laptop.

A decent quality ESD safe mat
After going through several reviews of this particular mat and comparing with other available options, I chose this ESD safe mat. And this came out to be surprisingly a decent quality mat. The size is suitable for my purpose. Mat thickness is also decent. It has four ESD buttons at the four corners. Any one of these buttons can be used to connect this to ground pin of the wall power socket (separate plug, not included here) through the ground cable supplied with this mat. The wrist strap with a crocodile clip is also of good quality. Overall a decent kit at this price point.

I read a review stating "NO continuity"
Did the reviewer put the test meter to the Mega-ohms" range.If not you may get a reading stating open line or no continuity.For added safety the manufacturer(s) have installed a 1 Mega-Ohm resistor between the ground pin and the output wire that can be daisy chained.They do not want a lawsuit on their hands.I have rigged my own connector without the resistor. But the liability is entirely mine.Or you can take a walk on the sea strand, which, BTW I do whenever I am near a seashore.
