I was excited to get this tool because I am tired of dealing with the hassles of HSS parting tools. Upon arrival, it seemed like a nice, well designed tool. I used the tool for the first time yesterday. I was cutting some 1018 steel. I was using cutting fluid and light tool pressure taking a .002" cut. The tool made it about .060" into the work piece with no chatter or other issues and suddenly broke just behind and under the carbide insert. I believe that the steel that the tool is made of was too hard in this area and became brittle and broke like it was a piece of glass. Now I have a box of 10 of the GTN-2 carbide inserts with no tool to use them in. I purchased another parting tool from another company and have not had any issues. I really wanted to like this tool.

Tool cuts nicely, but can easily be overloaded. Tool cannot take any sideloads - accidental or otherwise. Please note that I am an amateur metalworker, so take this review as a grain of salt.

I've been wanting an insert parting tool for a while but they are expensive. Then i saw this one and the price was right, and it comes with 10 inserts. Does a good job cutting aluminiun brass and steel.

Can only cut into a part just a bit, there's an edge blocking it. Works for small cut offs. Like a half inch.

Doesn't fit mini lathe without milling down to fit.

I use this tool on my South bend model A lathe and have no problem parting aluminum, brass, titanium and steel. DOC max out at just over .600 so it won't quite make it through 1.25" stock. Still a useful addition to the home shop.
