Nexstar GX USB 3.0 Dual 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD RAID Enclosure, Black (NST-272S3-BK)

I connected 2 ssd drives, different sizes and they went in easily. Connected them to my smart TV, worked first-time! I'd worried about if they needed a power supply. It came with a US style 2 prong mains plug. Useless in the UK, I'd need an adaptor. But the tv's USB socket is powered so no need for an external power supply after all. Great! Super! This cheap setup replaces a non-functioning £200 media box connected to my TV. Very happy customer. Don't use the RAID facility.

A solid high quality 2.5 inch enclosure from Vantec. It comes well packaged and requires the use of a screwdriver to install the drive and secure it into place. The screwdriver and screws are provided. One of the screws provided in my package had no thread on it, but the others provide enough grip to keep the drive secure. In all it took me about 5 minutes to install the drive. One thing to note is that the provided self-adhesive rubber feet are used to cover the screws holding the outer case together, hiding the screws completely. This is fine until you need to remove the drive from the enclosure again (e.g. to swap in another drive). At that point the rubber feet may no longer have enough adhesive for a second use. This and the screw-based assembly process mean that this enclosure is best suited to applications that will not require hot-swapping of the installed drive. Read/write speeds are good. Using a Samsung 850 Pro SSD in the enclosure, connected to my PC via USB 3.1 Gen 2 port, I am getting nearly the same sequential read speeds as an identical internal drive accessed via the PC's internal bus. Sequential write speeds are maybe just 10% less than the internal SSD drive. Random read/write speeds were reported as only around half the PC's internal SSD speed though. Connecting to a PC using a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port was found to be 20% quicker than a USB 3.1 Gen 1 port, as might be expected with that connectors increased bandwidth. All-in-all I'm happy with this enclosure. It might seem harsh but I'm inclined to knock a star off for the inconvenience of losing the rubber feet if you try to swap the installed drive out. That said I can recommend this a good quality, well built enclosure.

Perfect. Took hard drive from my old laptop (which was bricked), stuck it this which is easy and took 5 mins. Data was transferred to new laptop and I now have a spare external drive. Brilliant and simple product.

I bought this as my Toshiba computer broke and i removed the hard drive and used this to transfer data stored on my Toshiba to my new HP computer and I now use this for extra storage

This device works as it should and it's good value for money when compared tp similar products. However, bad design faults always annoy me because somebody didn't think about how this was gonna be used. For some reason, they put the drive activity lights on the back of the unit and conseqently, they cannot be viewed unless you pick up the item and turn it around. It's why it only got 4 stars from me.

The enclosure is very nice. I have 3 of them already but bought locally. They ran out so I purchased online. I found 2 issues with this enclosure. 1) When inserting or removing the HD, the HD has to be on a 30 degree angle to the sata ports in the case. I don't think Vantec thought this through very well. 2) Sometimes my computers (I tried a desktop and a laptop) stops copying files to or from the HD in the enclosure. Then my computers stop reading the drive. I suspect that there is not enough power going to the enclosure for the speeds that the enclosure is trying to transfer at. I used a micro USB cable instead (the same cables you use for your Android phone) which are USB 2.0. So, the transfer is slower but I haven't had an issue. I did try using Y cables but the same thing happened but not enough power is still my assumption. Having said this, I rarely swap out my drives and I'm in no rush to transfer files. So, they are not such a big deal to me. I would buy these again.

Housing a Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 6 Gbps 2.5" SSD with stated 560 MB/s read and 510 MB/s write; using the NexStar GX (NST-271C31-BK) enclosure the disk speed test (5 GB file) achieved 527 MB/s read and 475 MB/s write. The USB 3.0 enclosure that I was using prior to the NST-271C31-BK achieved around 400 MB/s max. for read and write. Very happy with it ;)

Jobs or Raid 1 or Raid 0, they all work perfectly! Easy to install, I put 2 500gb drives and am currently using them as Raid0, very fast drive...

ｍSATA 2枚でRAID1を構成する変換カードを介して使う予定で、放熱のよさそうな本機器を購入しました。 残念ながら作動しませんでした。 一般的な使い方ではありませんので、返品はしないで保管中ですが、無駄使いでした。 昨年購入したプラスチック製のもっと安価な、UGREEN 2.5インチ HDD ケース 製品型番 70499、ASIN B07Y9BLTBPでは問題なくRAID1動作が出来ますので、そちらで放熱シートを張りまくって使っています。 メーカーからの自主的なリコールとして、全額返金・回収の依頼が来るのを待ちますが、無駄でしょうね？
