Pacific Crest Trail: Washington North Map [Canada to Snoqualmie Pass] (National Geographic Topographic Map Guide, 1002) Review: Durable, accurate, convenient - I used these maps on a thru-hike of the PCT in Washington in 2022. The maps have scale and detail appropriate to the trail. The map is a good size to slip in a pack pocket. The coverage of side and alternate routes is particularly good, compared to the apps most thru-hikers use. There are occasional errors that all seem to be due to the fact that the trail changes a bit every year; to that extent, an app is more useful than a map, but it also means carrying a heavy phone and power bank. The front matter provides a bit of entertainment for evenings in the tent. The paper is very water resistant; the book got soaked a couple of times with no problems. Review: this is a Map Guide for the northern Washington section of the PCT - It is a great map guide, warning it is 1:75,000 so it is small. the pamphlet is oriented from north to south, but I will be using it south to north when I complete the Stevens Pass to Rainy Pass section of the PCT this summer. It has resupply info, and elevation profile at the bottom of each section. It is a fantastic back-up for my Garmin In-reach that I will be taking as primary. The quality of the materials is fantastic, I certainly believe the waterproof and tear proof claim. I hope that National Geographic completes the entire PCT

Will work whne you phone battery dies
I used the Pacific Crest Trail northern Washington map when section hiking the PCT. While FarOut or other apps will give you up-to-date information about the trail, there is something to be said for laying out a map for an overview that can be captured in glance without scrolling. And it works when your charging cable to connect your powerbank to your phone doesn't work and your phone dies. Always carry a paper map when in the back country. I'm taking off one star, because Nat Geo can do a better job with using finer lines for contours etc., which otherwise are too fat and blur other map details.

Missing accumulated mileage
These are great maps except for one thing. No accumulated mileage. It's a nuisance to have to add several point miles to get the distance to the next resupply point. Even just once per page would help a lot

I wish the grid was in Miles rather than km, but really great format for through hiking.
This map book is perfect for a through hike. I like the booklet format, really easy to navigate. Important features show up. Not cluttered. has campsites marked and other useful landmarks. Two things that are annoying: 1. it goes from north to south, opposite of most through hikers. 2. The scale is really awkward, and the grid is in km. This is an American trail in America. People use miles here, not km. So I am constantly having to convert in my mind from km to miles when estimating distances. Otherwise, the map I've seen on the market for through hikes.
