Prior Planning for the Appalachian Trail
I was looking for a short book about getting ready for a long series of hikes on the Appalachian Trail. I bought this book and it was well worth the price. It offers great advice in short sentences regarding what equipment you need, what options you have regarding price vs quality, what weather is generally like in various months at various locations on the trail at various elevations, clothing to take when it is cold and when it is warmer, etc. The only part that was missing was an adequate discussion about various types of food. It appears that the authors believe you can get what you need on the trail from grocery stores, outfitters and restaurants along the way or off the trail a short distance away. For those like me that want to buy the food in advance and have it mailed out, the book even has the US Post Offices that are on or near the Trail. All in all, it provides a wealth of information.Slow Ride 302

Good AT Planning Tool
If you're hiking the AT trail, this is a great reference book. I have read 1/4 of the book and have taken many notes and it has helped me a lot for trip planning. You can find all of the information on line but the book is laid out logically and you don't have to book mark web pages.

Excellent. Absolutely fantastic.
This book is a must have if you're planning a hiking trip on the AT whether it's a day hike, section hike, or thru hike. This book has very good detailed information about just about everything you need (outside of personal preference). Weather, elevation, mileage, topography, and other important points on the trail are included. If you're trying to plan an AT trip and aren't sure where to start or aren't confident about how to prepare, this is a major confidence boost. Hands down worth the money.

a good planning book
I bought this book just to satisfy my interest in the subject it is well done and it keeps all the information in one place. but there is nothing in here that you could not get off the internet with a little digging . Probably worth the price for someone that is planning the hike .

Worked as a gift.
I bought it as a gift to my step son who is starting the thru hike next week. He seemed happy with it.

Still working my way through it as I plan for ...
Still working my way through it as I plan for a future hike but so far it is bringing up items for consideration that I hadn't clued in on yet, and illuminating different aspects of some I had been thinking about.
