Mysterious Chicago: History at Its Coolest

This book gives great information about Chicagoland. The author does mini tours 6 days a week in various areas of the city and I’ve been following them for about a year. It’s nice to put both mediums together. This is a great read. If you want to the darker history of Chicago don’t miss this book.

I bought this for our exchange student who traveled back to Pakistan. She loved it and loves reading mysteries. I’m going to buy one for me as well. As a Chicagoan, I’m intrigued!

I have been following Adam’s virtual tours on Facebook and he is a master story teller and a really great guy. I bought this book to delve deeper into the mysteries of my hometown Chicago. I am not sorry I did. This book is a must have for those who follow Adam’s career. I highly recommend this book!

Quick, fun read. For example, I was amused that the name of one of the feared 1950's Chicago street gangs was called the Almighty Gaylords. Also, that they kept an dismantled gallows in the basement of a prison for approximately 50 years after instituting the electric chair because a man who was sentenced to be hanged had escaped and was never apprehended and they wanted to be sure he could be legally executed if they found him.

His books are very well written and researched and this one is no exception. Highly entertaining and informative.Check out his other books too. He knows all the interesting history of Chicago.

Bought this as a gift for my son, who is into mysteries. Since he lives in the Chicagoland area, I thought he'd enjoy reading about stories/happenings in his "own back yard" so to speak. Don't know if he has read it yet, but he seemed very happy to receive it. This book only comes in paperback to my disappointment. When giving books as a gift, I prefer to give hardcover.

We read this in advance of our trip to Chicago and this was a fun way to learn more about the city's history. My ten year old kept stealing it to read lol, she really enjoyed it. I only got to read half of it due to all her thieving.
