Another great Lego game
One of the things that my son and I enjoy doing together is to play Lego video games. I don't play them as much as him, but I quite enjoy them. I love that with each Lego game, they keep the fun and enjoyable aspects of the previous games, and continue to add new fun and enjoyable things to do. The Lego Marvel's Avengers game is no different. As with other Lego games, you can unlock and play as many characters. One of my son's favorite things to do is to find all the characters and try them all out. I usually find a character I like and stick with them. Though, it's nice having the variety, if you want it. For me, I enjoy finding the red bricks. In addition to the coin multipliers, it seems like there are also a ton of other fun things that the red bricks will unlock. And, they vary from game to game. I have to say that I was a little hesitant to like this when it first came out. After playing the Lego Marvel game, I thought this one might be a step back, just limiting itself to just the Avengers, but it does a great job of expanding itself to a good part of the Marvel universe. I also love that we were able to get free downloads of the characters from the Captain America: Civil War movie. Very cool. I'd definitely recommend this game to any fan of the other Lego video games!

LEGO Avengers is more advanced than the average LEGO game.
Due to several negative reviews that I read before buying this game, I thought that LEGO Avengers would be just another LEGO game that would be full of glitches, would probably annoy me more than it was worth, and would continue the downward spiral that LEGO has been in in recent years. But such is not the case. GLITCHES: I have played LEGO Avengers for 30+ hours, completed 100% of the game, and have had only minor glitches. The worst glitch was when the screen completely froze while I was walking around Manhattan; however, this has only happened once and I have not encountered any other glitches that disrupt gameplay. While reviews have stated that this game is very glitchy, updates have solved most all of the issues with LEGO Avengers. In fact, it has the fewest bugs of any LEGO game that I have played in a long time. If you want a glitch-free gaming experience, then LEGO Avengers is the game you want. CHARACTERS: One of the major issues that I have had with other LEGO games is that abilities are not evenly distributed. An example is that on LEGO Batman 3, Batman, Cyborg, Lex Luthor, and the Joker had gadget wheels that supplied them with 6-7 abilities each (everyone else had one or two at most). I like LEGO Avengers because not only are there plenty of abilities, but there are actually lots of characters who have the abilities. When you buy a new person they can actually be useful instead of just being a waste of money. NEW ABILITIES: LEGO has introduced several new abilities in LEGO Avengers that really increase the amount of fun that you can have. --My favorite is super-speed. I know that we have seen the Flash in LEGO games before, but those attempts at super-speed amounted to running a little bit faster than regular characters but still slower than cars. In LEGO Avengers, when you play as characters like Quicksilver (who has super-speed) in the hub, you can hold down the O button to run exceedingly faster than normal (you can run much faster than vehicles and flying characters). In addition, speedsters can now run up the sides of buildings and run on water. When I discovered these abilities, I spent a long time just running all over Manhattan and jumping from building to building at extreme speeds. -- Another new ability is the Hulk's super jump. By holding down the X button the Hulk(and other characters like him) can jump extremely high and far. When you super jump consecutively, you can cover great distances in a short amount of time. --The most common new ability is the team-up attack which kills all nearby enemies at once. To use the team-up attack, you first fill the meter that surrounds you character symbol in the upper left corner of the screen by killing enemies. When the meter is full, you have to get in position with your second player, and push O when enemies are nearby. These abilities serve to make LEGO Avengers more fun and more advanced. HUB/FREE WORLDS: For those of you who have played LEGO Marvel Superheroes, the main hub world of LEGO Avengers is the same Manhattan as before. The new twist is the other hubs that you get to visit. These hubs include the S.H.I.E.L.D. Base, South Africa, Barton's Farm, Sokovia, Washington D.C., Malibu, and Asgard. Although these hubs are smaller than the primary hub of Manhattan, it is very interesting to visit some of the places from the Marvel movies to collect studs, character tokens, and goldbricks. LEVELS: The levels of LEGO Avengers are a little bit awkwardly put together. All of the levels combine to basically play the movie. This makes for levels where you do very little but act out movie events. For the most part it's not a big deal, but it can still be annoying at times. --One of the major complaints about newer LEGO games is the fluent use of X and O prompts during levels that prevent you from actually doing anything else. LEGO Avengers does have some of these points during levels, but I didn't hate them as bad as I normally would because they are used to act out movie scenes (see previous). --Another point that I must warn you about is that it can be very easy to advance parts without meaning to. The levels are constantly switching between parts, usually in order to include all the Avengers during the levels. This can make it difficult to make True Avenger status because if you try to complete part of the objective before collecting studs, the level may advance before you get the chance to collect the studs. So a word of warning--get the studs first. --The way that you find red bricks on free play levels is now especially easy. The Collector is on every free play level to give you a quest to find an item that he wishes to acquire. These items are always fairly easy to find and when you give it to him, the Collector will reward you with the red brick for the level. NEGATIVES: --You may need to find the Minikit Detector red brick before you do any other free play levels because the minikits are very well hidden. Minikit Detector is on the last part of Level 10: Lost in the Aether. --To access level for free play and to travel between hubs, you have to travel to space and use a globe to choose where you want to go. The reason this is an issue is because there is a delay period to travel to space and another when you travel somewhere else from the globe map. --When in hub worlds, all you get to tell you where the collectibles are is a minimap with different colored dots with the colors indicating what is what(orange is Stan Lee in Peril, yellow is goldbricks, purple is quests). It is not always a problem but it is not as good as a full map. --When you hold down triangle to change characters as Iron Man, it brings up a list of all the different Iron Man suits that you have unlocked. If you choose to change suits, there is a long delay while Iron Man's suit flies in and he gets in it. If you want to change character as Iron Man, you have to open his display and then select the change character icon every time that you change from Iron Man to a different character. --The biggest issue that I have with LEGO Avengers is that during free play you only get two characters and sometimes you don't even get the story mode characters. As a result you have you change characters a lot to complete everything on free play levels. Over all, I would definitely suggest this game to anyone who likes LEGO games and the Marvel movies. Lego has provided a glitch-free atmosphere of relatively few negative elements that promotes gameplay.

Love this game!
The LEGO Avengers video games is just as amazing as the rest of the LEGO games out there! Actually it may be better, since it's newer and is available for the Wii U. This availability means you can play with the Wii U Gamepad and a Wiimote, so no more split screen! This game is two players, and my husband or son and I play together more often than we play alone. Having a whole screen to yourself as you play with someone else is a great feature! This video game covers a few of the more recent Marvel movies, like Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, and Captain America: Winter Soldier. I have seen two of the three, so it's cool to follow along with the game's story. They adhere to the films as much as they can while still creating a fun gaming experience. There haven't been as many glitches in this game as in past LEGO games, which is a huge relief! We have made it all the way through story mode and finished over half of the areas in Free Play and haven't gotten too stuck. With the game being so new, you can't simply Google for help. But while it is challenging, there haven't been many places where we just cannot figure out what to do. So less frustration while playing, especially for my 5 year old son.

Good addition but not as much fun as last Marvel game.
Basically follows the two Avengers movies with some content added from the Iron Man and Captain America movies. Lots of hubs and the same Manhattan hub and helicarrier hub from the last Marvel game. Hulk is great for doing land races. Tons of mini-challenges. Vehicles are boring. New team up moves take getting used to. If you like two player action you will have times you have to be one player only. Hulkbuster level will only show the satellite HUD in one player mode. Also many trophies can only be earned in one player mode. Game is patched but still locks up mid level from time to time.
