Q: spring was lost--anyone know what spring to buy for replacement?

Q: Have grandchildren that can’t seem to get the hang of closing a gate. Can a spring for self closing be attached to this latch?

This already has a spring inside for self closing. Would be easy for them.

Q: what size screws does it use?

Big Hex screws come with this latch; I swapped them out with some simple wood screws. This latch has been installed for a couple years now and it's definitely a great purchase.

Q: Will latch open from either side?? Gate too tall to reach over.

Yes, it can be opened from either side. The "Inside" has a hole where you can 'pin' or lock it... to prevent someone from opening the latch. And the entire assembly is reversible ... so you can put it so the Inside (pin hole) is on your side
