It's a fabulous concept and so easy to use for 4yr to 4.5yr olds who have good pencil control. Art and drawing is extremely important for kids to learn and the usborne big drawing book is great for this age group. This book is perfect to start with and then once they're good at this we can introduce the step by step drawing book from usborne.

Great drawing book for beginners. In fact, I think its the only drawing book I have seen so far that could be used in preschool, though I am sure it was intended older kids. The first few pages start off with very simple drawings with only 3 steps. Throughout the rest of the book however the number of steps and the difficulty of each step varies considerably. I think its one of those books that you may need to jump around in order to complete the pages at the correct level of difficulty. Also the style of the book is more doodly than either cartoony or realistic which again makes it more appropriate for preschool kids than other books because there is no erasing lines or shading etc. Lastly, I like that the book has a "gender inclusive" feel. I was always more of a tom boy so a book that includes flowers, butterflies, dump trucks, and pirates is great! I did find the fairy, princess, and mermaid pages a bit too on the girly side and the pirate and knight pages too much on the boyish side. This could have been easily fixed by having the princesses and knights on the same page... by including male fairies, mermen, and female pirates. Here are the things you draw in the book: snails ladybugs fish bees butterflies flowers birds rockets turtles monkeys monsters dolphins hamsters dragonflies cats mushroom hedgehogs hot air balloons bears elephants frogs tractors pigs koalas pandas robots ducks faces aliens bunnies dinos owls fairies ships horses cars lions windmills penguins princesses dragons houses airplanes helicopters crocodiles bulldozers mermaids castles pirates lizards reindeer knights dogs
