We would recommend surface wash only, because of all the hardware and things on it

Is this okay for the elderly?

Yes it is small but I bought it for my 77 year old dementia patient and he loves it. I'm ordering another because he uses it so much I need a backup so I can wash it.

Why does this product have perfume smell on it ?

Sorry but mine did not smell like perfume, maybe the person who packed it had on too much perfume.
