The Handbook of Painted Decoration: The Tools, Materials, and Step-by-Step Techniques of Trompe L'Oeil Painting

Such an AMAZING tutorial book by incredibly gifted artists. This isn't a showcase of faux finishes in rooms, but rather a step-by-step guide to replicating numerous finishes. Useful for the home and in fine art, it is a reference book that every artists should have. A lot of tutorials are done by (in my humble opinion) mediocre artists at best, which is frustrating when one is trying to learn quality work without having to find the time and talent with whom to apprentice. This is a lesson by true masters of trompe l'oeil.

Love this beautifully illustrated book. Also comes with a cd with permission to use all the graphics! Great inspiration for budding & pro artists alike.

I do trompe l'oeil paintings and this is good reference material. There are only a few shortcomings to the book: 1. The actual techniques of using the specialized brushes is not completely covered. 2. Also in the examples used to show the steps building up to the completed painting, they often do not show the exact same piece of the painting so that you could compare one step to the next. 3. The conversion from French or European painting terms to "American" painting terms is up to the end user. Overall a must have for someone serious about trompe l'oeil and mural paintings.

This is a most remarkable and inspiring reference for faux painting. It is unsurpassed in my opinion. I wouldn't be without it.

This book is old, but is full of advice about different techniques for painting faux finishes. You need to know about painting, because, although it has some step by step, it isnt handguided. Very useful as reference. It is a litlle expensive, but it is worth for money.
