Great tool, solidly built. Will pay for itself the first time you use it!
I ordered this tool after purchasing the smaller version. For the price I found this to be a GREAT TOOL. A lot of people have commented about how tricky it can be to set up the wrench and then use it. Here is my technique:1) If your watch is a metal band and you have the tools, open the band up so you can have easy, unobstructed access to the back of the watch. It will make the following steps way easier and help reduce the chance of you slipping and gouging the back/case/band.2) Once you have determined which tip shape you need to use, mount all three tips in the tool3) Dial the handle so that the lower tip is spaced wider than you will need. That means lower on the tool, more towards the handle. You want the lower tip out of the way while you size the upper two.4) While holding the tool over the back, start dialing the thumb wheel until you can get the top two tips to line up with their respective notches. Since the lower tip was dialed out of the way, you should be able to nest the top two tips fairly easily and accurately.5) Now, with the top two tips seated snugly, start dialing the handle to move the lower tip in. You should have a fairly easy time aligning it since the other two tips are already seated. This third tip is what is going to lock it all together--keep dialing until it seats cleanly into position.6) You should be good to go, so carefully turn the watch back off. If all three tips were well seated properly, you shouldn't have much trouble opening the watch. If you feel like the wrench is slipping out the notches, you are either using the wrong tip shapes or you did not fully seat the tips into the notches when you adjusted the size in steps 4 and 5.Pros:~ Well built and solid construction using good quality metals. The weight of the wrench is the first giveaway of its quality, but once you start using it, you can immediately tell its a well built tool. The threaded rods are tight, with very little slop. The metal has a clean even finish. The knurling on the handle is clean and well done. For $24 I really expected this to be a throwaway tool, but I was pleasantly surprised with the overall quality.~ Comes with a variety of tips for various watch types~ Obviously adjustable to fit a variety of watches. This DID fit my larger Nixon Chronicle. I had purchased the smaller version before I read the sizing, so I returned the small one and purchased this XL one.Cons:~ no instructions. Its not rocket science to use, but one sheet of information would take a lot of the guess work out of it~ The box isn't anything to write home about, but it will keep things organized. If you are like me and want to store all your watch things in a nice box or case, I find this cardboard box to be an eyesore. That is as much personal preference as anything else so take it will a grain of salt.Summary:Since the XL sizes for 17-55mm, it will cover all the same watches as the smaller one, PLUS larger watches. It functions perfectly once you know how to adjust it properly.

Nice tool after a few tweaks
I bought this tool when I discovered the smaller version I had made by" Hedapai" was to small to open larger watches. This tool worked fine on my Traser Big Date chronograph which is a 42mm watch. Both tools are the same design and look like they were made in the same factory then marketed by different companies. Both were purchased on Amazon and both did the job as designed. You really need to use this tool with a watch vise as you cannot hold the watch with your hand if the case back is tight. My Traser back was really tight and I wound up putting the watch vise in a conventional bench vise so I had full control over the setup. Then, as a retired tool and diemaker I appreciate fine tools so I made a few adjustments to make them feel more like a precision tool.> It took some force to remove that pesky Traser back and during the process the sharp edges on the inside of the 2 main flat plates that hold everything together hurt my hand ( the outer edges have a slight radius that is ok ). So a flat Swiss file was used to break these edges on both tools. This made them comfortable when force was applied.> The threads on the adjustment screws are not bad but seemed a little gritty. So, using a toothpick a little grease was applied to the screws and after running the adjustments back and forth a few times the adjustments became very smooth. So, I,m quite happy with this tool as delivered but a few tweaks made it a little better. Not all watch backs require this kind of force to remove so I'm happy to report this tool works under the toughest conditions when used properly.

Well made original
Well made and works great. This is the original that is copied for all the cheap watch kits.

Great Tool for your watch
Got this tool to fix a watch i had and it opened it with great ease. You are able to adjust the tool according to the watches dimensions and get a snug fit, making it easier to open. Great quality tool for the price.

A great case back opener that simply does the job.
I have to many watches in my collection to go and pay a jeweler to replace batteries, size bracelets, etc. That said, many of my 42-43mm and smaller watches worked well with my existing opener and it wasn't until I tried to replace the battery in my Oakley CrankCase [a 44.7 diameter minus the crown] that I ran into trouble and frustration. Using the JAXA XL it opened with ease! This thing comes with four different styled chucks to accommodate most/all case back scenarios in my collection. It adjusts easily along three different "grabbers" allowing the user to quite literally dial in the settings + clamp down on the case back before turning it. The handle, as well as the unit, is steel and intelligently designed with a pattern that adds grip when you need to remove a stubborn case back. I am very pleased and feel all the more confident that I won't need any assistance from paid experts the next time I run into a large watch battery change need. One more thing I thought I'd mention. the unit appears very large in the picture- it is as it will work on 55mm watches. However, if you are like me and would rather not undo links to change the battery, this opener still fits within the bracelet so it can be used without disassembling a bracelet. It may depend on your wrist size but I'd gather that anyone with a 7.5" plus size wrist will share the same opinion. This may be a rather "at home technique" and a jeweler may always disassemble the watch prior to a battery change- but that's why I bought it so I can call the shots right?!

Worked, but sloppy mechanism
The screw drives on this are sloppy, sticky, not precise. That being said, it did do the job of removing screw down case backs on 3 different watches for me. Think harbor freight quality, not german engineered quality, but for the price and what I needed, it was a good buy. I think that the manufacturer could have tightened up the tolerances a bit and made it so much better for not much effort.
