Does this work on a plastic bathtub?

Yes it works. I dampen it slightly first then lay over plug hole and fill with with water a little more slowly at first to ensure it has sealed. I have successfully used it to bathe for about 15 mins. And it held in all of the water.

Do these work on stainless steel sinks

I would presume so. They just sit flat over the plughole so I don’t think it matters what the sink is made of .
