Simon & Schuster Super Crostics Book #6 Paperback – November 1, 2002

Thomas Middleton wrote glorious crostics for the NYT. These puzzles are challenging and rewarding and not for the faint of heart. I was disheartened to learn that these compilations are out of print and only two volumes are still in supply. Used copies of the other volumes with (presumably) unsolved puzzles are offered at silly prices. Old puzzles aren't available online with a puzzle subscription. So in essence they're close to being just a memory. Too bad because Middleton didn't use many pop culture or ephemeral words. His puzzles just require broad knowledge of language, history, and the arts. If you find puzzles by Morris, Dickman, et. al. difficult, you should step away now : )

I enjoy doing these puzzles with a theme. Not too hard, but also not too easy so they are a pleasant way to spend some free time.

Acrostics are wonderful and this book is excellent. The degree of difficulty is high but not too high. There are 185 puzzles in this book so the value is also excellent.

This is a fantastic compendium of Acrostics of varying degrees of difficulty. None are "easy" which makes me very happy as I always find any puzzle books waste space with easy ones. Good quality but do them in pencil as ink will probably bleed through. Still totally worth it.

Mr. Middleton' anacrostics were and are very difficult to do. I was fortunate to speak to him on the phone for he lived in L. A., where his passing went unnoticed. I hope some special recognition was given in New York. I would like one of his compilations which includes an anachronistic of mine.C

The print is very tiny. Didn't like having to turn book sideways to work puzzles.

The only thing I don't like about this book is the fact that some of the puzzles are printed very lightly and I don't know why. Most of them are very dark and easy to read.
