Excellent tape to keep around the house
I was surprised by the lack of information about the tape on Amazon's listing. For more information about the tape than you care to know, search for "3m 4011 datasheet" - 3M has one that talks about it's construction, adhesive tests, and bondline elongation results among other things. As far as load goes, the packaging recommends 4 inches of tape for every pound it's supposed to hold and can be used to mount up to a total of 5 pounds. The packaging also warns that the tape "may cause damage if removed" and "if you must remove the mounted object, insert a knife behind [it] and carefully cut the tape between the adhesive surfaces". The tape is 0.045 inches thick (almost 1 mm), so depending on what you use it for, there may be a bulge. It is kind of a pain to remove the red protective layer, so if you need to fit it in a tight spot, peel of a corner first before placing it. I've used this tape a few times and have been very pleased with it. I've used to attach a Oxo SteeL Kitchen Tool and Utensil Rack to a metal backsplash (where I couldn't screw into it) and I've also used it to mount surge protectors to the underside of desks to move it out of the way. I'm sure there are hundreds of other good uses for it, so I plan to keep a roll of it around the house. It's almost as useful as super glue, just less permanent and it isn't as much of a pain to clean up. UPDATE (7/13/2011): I've been using this to mount the tool rack for over six months now. It does work, however the load I'm putting on it is too high and it causes the tape to creep. After about 3-4 weeks it sags enough to drop the untensils. I'm not going to dock a star because I knew I'm exceeding the load (I have several pounds on a square inch.). I've recently discovered 3M's 4929 Very High Bond Tape. This stuff is ridiculously strong (110 psi shear). I've used it at work in high stress environments at low temperatures (-20C) and it didn't budge. This tape is (currently) not on Amazon and has to be ordered through an industrial supply company like McMaster-Carr ($20 a roll). I think I'm going to try replacing the 3M 4011 tape with this and see if it does any better.

Amazing adhesive for nearly any project.
Awesome adhesive for nearly anything you want! This stuff is good for nearly anything you could want to use it for! I used this adhesive to mount an LED Step Light to my brick wall to light up my address sign and it works flawlessly. The light was probably about 8oz in weight and it bonded to the brick and the aluminum light with ease and has been adhered to the wall for about 3 to 4 months without falling off, even with significant rain and wind and humidity. I also used it to adhere lights to a glossy wood mailbox post without any issues and again, the adhesion is amazing. Highly recommend this adhesive for anything you want to hang but don't want to or cannot drill holes for. If it's drywall, I'd imagine it'll easily remove any paint and leave a "hole" in its wake when removed, however. Easy to cut to size in small pieces, and pretty pliable to match whatever project you're working on

Strong adhesion but too thin.
Great tape! Will even adhere to stucco and stay! I have a lot of yard decorations to hang up. Our house is stucco and our retainer wall is as well. I don’t like hanging things on it with nails, because I’m afraid it will break and I’ll have to do stucco repairs... I did a test with a small metal sun that about 12” in diameter and relatively light. I used about a 2” long piece of tape, adhered it to the stucco wall on my house then placed the sun on top of it and it actually held. I’ve had it up for the past two or so weeks and it’s still there and solidly stuck, no weak spots. We’ve had rain (it’s on a covered lanai so not too much problem getting wet, but the moisture didn’t affect it, as well as having upwards 65 mph wind gusts! It’s there just as solid as the day I put it there. I’m very impressed! That being said the tape is on the thinner side so if you have a particularly rough surface (like stucco) you really have to manipulate for solid adhesion, if the tape were thicker it would go up with very little effort. That’s the only reason I deducted a star. Like I said I am very impressed. I would definitely recommend it.

Great for mounting on bricks
I've used this mounting tape to hang my solar motion LED lights on my brick walls outside of my house since Sept 2017. I just use strips around all 4 sides of the light on the back of the lights. And through the rain, snow, sun and elements no issues with the lights falling off in that time. So much easier than drilling into the bricks. I had to remove one of the originally mounted lights recently as it was malfunctioning, but no issues removing. Just need to pry up from one side to break the seal. I was able to pry up by hand but may be easier with a flat head screwdriver. I recently purchased additional lights to mount but ran out of this tape and needed something same day, so I went the local big box store to get some but they didn't have this version. All they had was the Scotch Extremely Strong Indoor/Outdoor black colored tape (30lb rating). I didn't read the fine print and it wasn't meant for rough surfaces and the lights fell down 2 days later. After that, I learned my lesson and ordered more of this gray Scotch Heavy Duty Exterior Mounting Tape (5lb rating). Works great, just wish they offered it in a larger roll size.

Best adhesive tape out there
I purchased this tape in hopes that it would hold my ring doorbell on the exterior of my home. I didn’t have a doorbell hookup and I’m not permitted to drill into the brick so I figured I would give this a try — turns out it has held up better then anything I’ve ever seen! I put the adhesive tape around the edges of my ring 4 years ago and it’s still holding strong. Through all the snow, rain, wind, heat, etc. this tape is the best adhesive out there!

I love this stuff, it's super sticky and near impossible to remove once it's attached. both sides adhere nearly the same and thickness is great for textured surfaces like wood and bricks. Backing is a pain to take off because of how well the glue works.

A really good product. I used it to stick a mirror on my door. It holds it well that I was not able to remove it. I left the mirror behind when I moved out. Tips: I calculated the length of the tape required as per the weight of the mirror when applying it.
