Alter Ego, Volume 1

tl;dr: If you’re a fan of girls-love or just watching people fall in love in general, please pick up this manga ASAP.I’m worried that since this “manga” isn’t originally from Japan (I believe it was first published in Spain) that it’s not going to be on anyone’s radar, and to me that would be a huge shame.I picked up this one-shot up on a whim last weekend after I saw it in my Amazon recommendations and have already read it twice. Alter Ego is definitely a cut above the piles of other exceedingly mediocre "girls-love" mangas that have been recommended to me of late; the artwork is excellent, the characters are well written, and the pacing and story beats are well placed and feel genuine. Outside of a couple overly convenient coincidences (probably necessary setup in a story this short), I can think of nothing else to complain about except the sadly short duration of this great story. While it makes me sad to think I won’t ever get to see any more of Noel and June, I’m extremely pleased with how concise this story was - even though there aren’t anywhere near as many pages as a typical manga, Alter Ego uses each of those pages extremely well, concisely telling a compelling story of rage at a great loss transforming bit by bit first into confusion and then into a freeing, wonderful love. Ahh, now I want to read it for a third time 😅 Also, since the story is so short, artificial “story inflators” like the dreaded added secondary love interest aren’t needed here (not like they ever are, but it sure seems like many authors think they are 😑).And hey, while it might be short, it’s only one volume, so it’s easier to get into! 😄 So if you’re a fan of romantic girls-love stories, please pick this one up. You won’t regret it.

This was super cute and relatable. The characters were fantastic. Although I would've liked to have seen maybe two more volumes, because I would've liked to have seen June look for her brother. I thought Elena's boyfriend Girl was possibly June's brother.

This is my first venture into this kind of story and I found it easy to read. The illustrations brought life and personality to the characters. The time line is kind of vague, I think there’s possibly so years that go by due to a conversation but it’s not really mentioned how much time passes. But it doesn’t take away from the story, just something I noticed. Basically, two best friends of Elena meet and it’s not so pretty but they start spending more and more time together (with some meddling help from Elena) and we get all the feels. Check it out!

This book makes you want to be in love. You can feel the characters raw feelings. Written beautifully with beautiful and quirky, relatable characters.

Noel. Such a pretty girl, but wow, she started out as a VERY unpleasant person. However, thanks to the words of her BFF Elena, and Elena's other BFF, June, well, Noel, she was able to internalize her issues and make positive changes. Once she realized she loved June, TRULY was in love with her, and realizing June was madly in love with her, it made all the difference in the world. Both Noel and June loved Elena, then they grew to love each other. I have a sneaking suspicion that all along, Elena KNEW that both Noel and June had a crush on her. She did say she thought Noel & June would be perfect for each other, if they just gave each other a chance. They did, and wow, did the sparks ever fly! Such passion. These two lovestruck cuties found what they dearly wanted most in each other's arms. I really like how Elena kept maneuvering Noel and June, especially Noel, so that the two kept ending up alone together. Elena is one smart cookie. I really love happy endings like this. I really enjoyed this story. So much so, that I hated for it to end. I would LOVE to read the further adventures of Noel and June, as they travel the road of life, hand in hand. Give this story a look. If you like Yuri, or even just romance, you will enjoy this. I eagerly look forward to more stories from this emerging Mangaka.

Excited to read more of this I hope a second manga comes out to see where things go. Also, the art work in this manga is awesome! Excited to add another Adult yuri to my collection

Not a bad story by any means, but it's unoriginal. The artwork was good, but the characterization is a little flat, especially the best friend

This was so cute! I really liked June and Noel. To see character growth from both especially Noel was awesome. I wish this was a series 😭!! Overall, I really enjoyed this 😊🧡

Amei!! A história é fofíssima e bastante realista, adorei as duas personagens e o plot. Dá pra dizer que se encaixa em rivals to lovers.
