Outstanding coffee for 1, easy to use and clean.
I bought this to use in addition to my electric drip coffee maker. I drink 1-2 mugs of coffee every morning and while the electric drip makes acceptable coffee it is more suitable for brewing larger pots. I buy whole bean coffee and grind my own beans (my next investment will be a burr grinder). I am not a coffee aficionado but I like a good fresh cup of coffee - my favorite beans are Eight O'Clock original. I saw the Chemex for the first time on a friend's social media post and was intrigued. I did debate purchasing the larger Chemex, but decided that for larger groups/company the electric drip would work better and therefore purchased the smaller unit for my daily use. I did watch a few videos before I tried it the first time and that was helpful. The coffee it produces is wonderful - it is full of flavor and has no bitterness. This model uses the half-moon filters, I do not find them difficult to use. Obviously this takes a little more effort than flipping a switch on an electric drip, but for me it is worth the effort. The difference in time/effort for me is that I have to add the water in 1-2 batches since it doesn't drip quickly enough for me to add it all at once. Note that the most you can pour into this model is 2 cups of water (2- 8 oz cups) - I suppose it is called a 3 cup because most coffee makers assume a 'cup' serving to be around 6 oz - but it is just right for me. Since there is no burner to keep the coffee warm, I usually heat my second mugful in the microwave which works very well, there is no bitterness after reheating. I wash my unit every time I use it, it's not difficult to untie the leather strap, remove the collar, clean it with a bottle brush and set it aside to air dry. The glass is dishwasher safe but since I don't run my dishwasher every day and can quickly wash it by hand that wasn't a big deal for me. I have found that I use fewer beans since purchasing the Chemex because I rarely throw any coffee down the drain - first because it tastes so good and secondly because I make only what I can drink.

Makes delicious coffee
My new 3 cup Chemex is perfect for one person.I have a 6 cup that I have been using for five years. I decided to buy the smaller one for my single household. I love the Chemex pour over coffeemakers.

Chemex makes great coffee even better!
I bought this size Chemex carafe to keep at my daughter's house in Washington state. While I love some of the local coffee houses, I can't get a cup of pour-over that makes me this happy. To anyone like me who feared they would have to give up coffee forever due to stomach discomfort, you need to try Chemex and especially Chemex filters to remove the compounds in even organic coffee that cause bitterness and stomach problems. Chemex is the reason I still get to drink coffee. The glass is thick and not cheap. Follow the instructions for finding the correct grind for your drip rate. I liked the half moon filters best for this smaller size. Chemex is very easy to use, and the carafe is dishwasher safe after removing the collar. The design looks stunning on my cabinet.

Great size!
Love the size for a single serving. Chemex is the best for great brew. I have 3 sizes of these Chemex carafes.

Beautiful, Simple, Effective
Great low-tech way to get smooth, non-bitter coffee. Yes, it takes a tiny bit longer than a machine that forces water through the grounds but the results of the gentle are well worth it! Nice size for 1-2 people. Small footprint a attractive container looks nice on the counter top. While a good, portable size, I'd ike to find a good hard+shelled carrying case to keep it safe for travel.

Love it.
Chemex products are great quality and work perfectly. Make sure to get the correct filters for this small size carafe. They are folded differently than the standard ones. This size is nice for one 10-15 oz coffee mug or 3 small 5 oz cups.

Great Coffee Maker, Even For Beginners
I really struggled when deciding between a Chemex setup or a decent automatic drip machine. It's tough because while the Chemex is always cheaper than a good drip machine, it's enticing to do less work in the morning. However, I decided on the Chemex 3 cup after a lot of thinking and research, and here's why: - Smaller serving sizes (I drink 1-2 cups, never more). Perfect for one or two people - Easier cleaning - Simpler, no moving parts to break over time - Reportedly better tasting coffee over automatics Basically, I started looking at drip filters because I was getting a little tired of making espresso every day. Sometimes my shots wouldn't pull perfectly, and it's pretty frustrating on those days you just want a simple, no-frills cup of coffee. I have a french press, but I wanted something with a little thinner body than my typical espresso drinks. I've never really used a drip maker before. I expected it to be really annoying or difficult to figure out, but it really wasn't. I would highly recommend getting a good gram scale (with a timer) with this coffee maker, since it makes it so much easier to replicate the same cup of coffee every morning. I use about 25g of coffee per 390g of water. All you have to do is grind your coffee, weigh it to 25g, dump it in the Chemex (with your filter), tare your scale, and pour hot water slowly until you reach 390g. It should take about 4 minutes in total to reach the 390g. If you're a newcomer, that might sound intimidating, but honestly it's really easy after you do it once. There are plenty of videos on how to do it on YouTube. I was a little worried, because it looks really complicated, but as soon as I tried it I realized you pretty much can't mess up as long as you use the right amount of coffee and water, and let it drip for the right time. I came into this with low expectations, and I was actually surprised to find that the coffee you make in the Chemex really does taste better. It's more complex, and I could taste stuff that I couldn't when using the same beans in my french press. And surprisingly, the coffee isn't nearly as thin-bodied as I was expecting from the heavy filter. The mouthfeel is still quite substantial, but incredibly smooth and satisfying. It might just be the filter, but I found that some of the more stubborn coffees that I usually only run through my espresso machine tend to be much easier to make in the Chemex. I have a lighter-roast espresso that kept coming out sour and acidic in my french press (regardless of water temp and grind), and it poured beautifully the first time I put in through the Chemex. For the first time, I actually understand why some people call lighter roasts "refreshing". I used to just think they were sour and awful in a french press. Overall, I think this is a really good bang for your buck if you're looking to make a great cup of coffee. It's relatively inexpensive, and the filters really aren't too bad in price, unless you're making like 5 pots a day or something. Also, I feel like the Chemex is going to make better coffee than most of your automatic machines, simply because you have way more control over the process.

Chemex 3 cup coffeemaker
I love this size. It does make a small cup of coffee, for one, and not bitter. I had a larger more expensive one twice, and broke them within weeks. Maybe since this is not blown glass like the $100 models, it will last longer and since it's all mine, I wash it right away and put it away. I wanted a small amount of coffee just for me that I can wash and have a medium strength coffee. My husband makes his own pot in a brewer, and makes it too strong and bitter for me. plus he never washes it, so the pot is brown. Very happy.
